Mud Flaps

Opinion here: I pulled the mud flaps off my car when i put on G35C wheels two years ago. Now, after cleaning road tar, paint, and mud off my car for 8 seasons, I am wondering if I should return them to service? I like the look without, but the car only stays clean a week here in Oregon. What is the general consensus on flaps?

Maybe try "shaving down" the black part. You'll still have functional mud flaps without the overly large look.
when done, they should look more like the flaps from a 5th gen.

Do the flaps from a 5th gen bolt onto a 4th gen?

As for using them, I always left them on. You can always paint them body color with some paint that has a flex agent mixed in.

I think that the minor appearance annoyance is worth keeping rocks and debris off of my rear quarterpanel.

I have them and would not go with out them. They protect the paint from stone chips.

Hello Dooley,
So, what have you decided about the mud flaps?
I am looking to buy these, but Nissan does not sell them anymore.
If do not need your flaps, I will be interested in buying.
Let me know.

Where did you buy these Mud Flaps? Are these specitific to 97 Maxi (SE).
Do they fit well, of you had to force them on?
I would like to get them soon.

You may be able to have the best of both worlds. My '98 SE had chip guards and not splash guards. They cover the same area on the body as the splash guards, just do not stick out at all. They contour/ hug the body. Unfortunately, I do have a camera now, just I will be at school until tomorrow night and the camera is at home. My buddy's white w/ leather SE came with splash guards and he changed them to the ones I have. He bought the whole set from a local bone yard for $5. It is a 10 second swap, literally. It also changed the look of the car without depriving the protection of the splash guards from rocks and tar. I am sure someone else on here has them, this is the only pic I have on my website that you can see (or not see for that matter) They are on there, trust me. They work great.

Good to get such a quick reply.
I think my 97 Maxi (SE) has the same thing currently, what I see on yours.
But I still get splash and dirt on the panels near the wheels. So, they are not that functional, in my opinion. Plus I went to our local bone yard, but they don't have single 4th gen Maxi to pull anything off.

does anybody else have rust on their car from where the mud flaps connect to the car? mine does & i'd like to get it fixed but not if the mud flaps will cause it to come back.

Every maxima 95-99 has them, unless they have mud flaps.

I wasn't sure if they did or not. I had (2) 3rd gens prior to my '98. They both had regular splash guards. I had American cars before that (never again), god knows you get less for your money with those - plus a short life expectancy out of the car, no matter how good you care for it. At least now I know about the guards though.

Looks like a lot of owners have taken the mud flaps off.

If anybody wants to get rid of them, I am willing to buy them.

I have a 97 SE Pearl White which I recently purchased.
Please let me your asking price including shipping.
Also, let me know if the flaps are Body Color or not, and
include a picture if possible.

You can email me at - NeatKarma@yahoo.com

Well,
I am going to try them on again. I am experimenting with painting the section of the guard that sits next to the body white (my car is pearl white) and leaving the flap portion black. Not sure what the final look will be, I will post pics. These were on my car when I bought it, I pulled them when I put on wheels that flushed my wheels to the fender width. After a wet winter, looking for options.

Thanks for all the feedback on the Mud Flaps/Splash Guards/Mud Guards/Splash Flaps/Guard Flaps/Splash Mud/Flap Guards!!

You think your Buddy may be willing to sell his Flash Guards.
Please ask him and let me know his price including shipping at

Thanks in advance..
