How to Install Clear Bumper Lights

Alright, so I know this isn't a complicated procedure, but a lot of people like to know exactly what they're getting into when they go to do a mod. I'm one of those people. I had found a tutorial before, but it seems it has gone offline or I can't find it anymore. So I decided to take pictures and write one up while I did the mod myself.

Installing Clear Bumper Lights on a 4th gen:

Time: 5-10 min.

What you need:

-Clear Bumper Lenses
- Two 1156 Amber Bulbs
- Two 194 Amber Bulbs

And these tools:

Step 1) Take off the outer light housing using the 1/4 Flathead Screwdriver wrapped in the cloth. Pry from the left side of the housing because the clip is on the right.

Step 2) Unscrew the one phillips head screw holding the inner housing as seen in the above picture.

Step 3) Remove lights from housings, simply grab the Grey connector and twist, then remove. *Note* Some states require amber bulbs (NJ does not) to be installed as well since our stock ones are clear, if this does not apply go to Step 4:

Step 3a) For the outer bulbs simply pull the bulb and it comes out

Step 3b) For the inner bulbs twist, then pull

Step 4) Reverse what you just did and your done!

Stock vs Clear

Final Product with clear bulbs

Final product with Ambers

thats a nice little writeup it may not be the most technically involved but i think it will answer some people's (noobs) questions because it contains pictures.

nicely done, i hope a mod sees this and adds this to the existing stickies.

Nice write-up... Hah, I'm trying to do the opposite on my 3rd gen.

Too bad euro-blinkers are hard to come across

As much as I want to joke and say "how do I put gas in my 4th gen?" the pictures are really clear and I would think take any fears out of doing this for someone that may look at the front of the car and have now idea where to begin.

Thanks, heh not much technical parts to it with a grand total of two phillips head screws XD

But yeah it was designed to clear up any possible questions about the lights. I Pm'd it to phenyriv1 (sp?) since I didn't see it in the stickies.

Genius, heh then again I'm sure you've seen it a couple times you pull up to a self service station and you have the new driver standing there staring at the pump, and looking for help

Actually, I thought of that because of James92Se did that to his corners and blinkers. Although the colors offered I don't really like a whole lot.

The Euro One's just seem darker and better looking, but if all else fails...

Stained Glass paint it is...
sorry for being OT

Thanks, I thought about that after I had them all uploaded and was just too lazy. I figure that nobody on the .org is going to hunt down my max to steal clear bumper lights XD

Good call, think autozone would carry some of those bulbs? I'm cruising around with White Bulbs / White Lenses, but if I can get some Chromed Amber's that'd be nice.

I just fixed the problem with my amber bulb/ white bulb issue concerning legality. I bought some Sylvania's from Autozone today, they are tinted a blue hue, but when lit come out amber. So I don't get the little orange dots in my front and I still have amber turn signals

I think the silverstars look awful. Makes the lights look green/blue during the day. Not sure why you guys dislike the orange tint from amber bulbs...looks better than multi colored silverstar bulbs in there. Fried egg color? What?

personally i dont mind them but something that takanto brought up is that these are the only bulbs right now that we found to give it a true amber light rather then a yellowish/ orange light. but they are 10$ a pair so.

Go in the store, find the light bulb section. Look for the turn signal lights, and select bulb size 1156. I think 1156 is only for 95/96 though, 97-99 might be 1157.

Follow the guide up top, and once you removed your turning light housing take out the bulb. You say "corner light bulb", do you mean the turn signal bulb or the courtesy side marker light? The one that flashes the turn is a 1156/1157 bulb, the one that is on the side is a 194 bulb. Anyway once you take it out, it should look like this:

1156 - It will have two small nubs near the bottom of the bulb, each one on opposing sides at the same exact height level.

1157 - It will have the same two nubs as above, except on will be visibly higher than the other.

On my 99:

1156: Tail/Brake Lights
1157: Front and Rear Turn Signals
194: Auxiliary Lights on Bumper Lights and Tails

I would assume that this is the same for 97 and 98 but if youre still unsure...just have autozone check their computer. They will give you a definite answer if you are still unsure.

As long as they're amber when lit they're legal, right? Also, do the lenses look equally colored when they flash, or is there just a spot of the amber in the center? And as long as I'm asking noob questions, I might as well ask, where is a good place to buy the clear lenses?

silverstars have that blue green tint regardless. i think the chrome bulbs are nice because you cant see them but when on itll blink amber.

you can find them on ebay. just search for chrome and whatever bulb size (1156/1157). however due to the coating of "chrome" or mirror outside the bulb the light output during the day is not as good. looks great during night tho.
