Results of boredom, and a can of $4 Tremclad glossy rust protection paint:
1) Lower rad support, was showing signs of rust in the centre so i got out my handy metal brush, took off the plastic covers from underneath the engine bay (the ones that attach to the front bumper underneath) and went to work. its still very solid and has no holes through it, i also took off the rust at the corners of some kind of metal supports (behind the fog lights - if i would have them). Did not have enough time to remove the PS cooler support bolt so i might have to go back and paint behind there sometime in the future as well.

Then i did my wipers. I did not take them off and i am happy with the results. As well as my peeled hubcaps to replace the $20 dollar Wal-mart ugly ones. Sanded them, cleaned them, and applied many coats and dried them in between, i think it came out alright:

for the amount of boredom its interesting. I like the hubcaps but the rear pass looks like its already chipping...
the wipers dont really look painted at all. too much bubbles.

im not a body shop on wheels, i dont even know where to start at removing the bumper.
the wiper arms, i lightly sanded, basically took off the pain that easily flaked off, it seems as though the paint was not right for the wipers cause it kinda bubled up on the aluminum, it alright cant see when walking by, but u can really tell if looking really close, im ok with that.
the hubcaps were a real biatch to sand - i got out my polish machine thingy and put some sand paper on that, still, the little grooves and bolt holes had to be done by had and i just kind asaid screw it after a while and started painting. im not going to a car show or anything, so its good enough for me - for now until rims happen.

removing the front bumper is a pita for what it's worth imo, you can only get it so good with the crossmember still in place anyways, plus the inside is still going to rust regardless, but neverthless that's a whicked smart idea to blast it with paint every few months.

i think so too, i will repeat this before next winter. going to take off the PS cooler support and do it there too
i did the best i could with the rad support, with the time i had (was begining to raing by the end of it) , but look at it this way, the car is 10 years old, its got 213.000 KM on her, its not like im gona have her another 200K. its just to slow the rust and make it look cosmetically alright if i was to sell my car...

my tires look like this every morning before going to work (the snow from the night before melts and leaves the salt in its place) this is just the tire, imagine where else this salt goes ? everywhere

i love the 16" 5-spoke thats actually what i WANT right now, but im not in a position to buy rims at the moment unfortunately.
NO the rubber is NOT painted, i did say i used tire shine stuff so hence the white foam remaining on the rear wheel.

I am thinking of doing the arms to, I did once before but it did not last more than two winters, any easy way to remove those? So that I can sand them properly enough and do hopefully a better job, or it is worth spending $20 and get them done at a Body Shop?

that radiator support looks perfect. it will never rust. the 95-96 and the only ones that rust because in 97 they made them out of a different metal.
take the wiper arms off the car, sand, primer, and then re paint them. you will be much happier with the results. it looks cheaply done.
maybe paint the hub caps silver, the girls will think you have a rust bucket.

i know the wipers are so so, but thats cause the paint did not stick to the aluminum arms - it was basically the wrong paint for this but since i had one type i went ahead anyways, i did sand most of them but obviously no enough, the paint kinda clumped together and did not spread, at that point there was no return, its alright, when they peel again i will do it right. it will last at least until next spring and im ok with that.
I was thinking to paint the outer hubcap rim silver / or even white, and the rest black, like those rims some guys have. but that seemed rice to me and i wanted a look that would NOT stand out.
Basically i think its a good idea to paint at least the Rad support, but make sure u take off the plastic covers under the engine, and take off the PS cooler, i painted it fro mthe bottom and front , and the top as much as i could reach from under the car. as well as the ?cross-member? metal bar in front of it as much has i could fro mthe bottom if that makes sense...Thanks guys i appreciate ALL the comments...(but u guys gotta realize if i COULD afford rims i WOULD have them already)

well i thought the 97 was made of a different metal ive had a 96 Max where the support was ready to fall off, my 98 has barely any rust. ive looked at other 95-96 they ALL are only supported by like 1 out of the 2 bolts down there. all radiator supports will rust, but it seems like the 95-96 have the worst of it.

ok heres the thing if its painted then its a sort of steel if it has even the smallest amount of rust its steel .not SS not TI not aluminum
the 4th gens are made of a kind of steel called durasteel ,its very strong but rots fast
