smoke coming from pcv. plz help asap.

also wrote a thread in the Fi forum but thought it might be a faster reply here.

just wondering what this means?? I have white smoke coming out from both valve cover pcv openings. what is this the symptoms of, how serious is it, and how do i fix it? I changed the oil and theres no coolant in it and theres no oil in the coolant so I dont think its a head gasket.. also theres no smoke coming from the exhaust..

The smoke coming out sounds like it is blowbuy from compression gasses. It could be something as simple as your pcv valve being stuck closed and the gasses are finding a way to escape. Pull it out and shake it to see if you hear a rattle if not change it. If it does rattle then it sounds like it's rebuild time! Hope this helps

do you mean that you took the pcv out and smoke was coming out of the hole?

I don't know about you, but if I take my oil cap off after driving, a little smoke comes out of the crank case... It seems normal.

You're obviously burning quite a bit of oil. How's your oil level? Do you burn a lot of oil during the course of 3-5k miles?

Drive the car for 10-15 mins so that oil warms up nicely, and then pull out engine oil dip stick. If smoke comes out of dip stick you have a clogged PCV Valve. If PCV is clogged change it immediatly else it will cause rear main seal leak

It's located just to the left (and up a little bit) of the TB and iust to the right the plenum tubes. Look for a black rubber hose about 4" long. The PCV valve is there.

You don't fix PCV valves, you replace them. However, you can test it first to see if it's ok. That will save you $15. It's all explained in any of the 3 manuals.

On a side note, don't you have a Haynes or Chilton's, or a free FSM??

Change it before it will cost you alot more than $15. The faster you change it, the faster you will know if that was the cause to your problem. Good Luck
