I'm replacing the belts which would seem easy enough. But I'm stuck (no pun intended) at trying to loosen the nut for the idler pulley. Not the on that tensions but the one that holds the idler pulley. To make things worse, its too tight of a space for me to use a regular 6 point socket. I certainly don't want to strip it and all I have is a 12 point box wrench (I think thats what it is called).

Anyone who has done this job before, what tool did you use?

spay it with PB blaster, let it sit for 10 minutes. Get a pipe, put it over the end of the wrench and try it.

I just use a 14mm ratchet wrench, wasn't too tight when I did mine. Just pull...harder, is all you can really say. If you get a belt tensioner tool with a 14mm socket or crow's foot wrench that may work, they're very slim for that purpose.

 

try from the bottom of the car..... remove the wheel and splash guard... it should work....

 

do it from under the car and it will take you about 15 seconds with a regular ratchet and socket... sounds like you're attempting it from the top.
