Prop rod how to

well after 3 mos. of having the car i finally decided to get off my fat a$$ and make a prop rod.

what's needed:
12mm combination wrench
oxy/acetalyne torch or butane plumbing torch from home depot.
1/4" steel rod
rubber or plastic grommet for the hole
two rod Clips
A drill with a 1/8th bit and another bit that is just a bit bigger that 1/4"
I used a step bit cu'z all the cool kids are doing it
some thick gloves
I used a bench clamp at work Vise grips should work
wear safety goggles at all times do not get lazy even if you just have to make a minor adjustment when bending your rod.

all this can be purchased at the home depot in the hardware dept. i can't tell you how much it cost because i only paid for the rod and the rest i had at work. the round tube is 4 dollars the clips are prob $2 and the butane torch i dunno.

start by removing the gas shocks wiht a 12mm open end wrench. and grab a broom stick for a prop rod.

then you need to cut abou 2-3 inches off the rod. if you are geometrically challenged you can draw my rod out on a piece of paper or print it and then start bending by heating up the rod with a torch untill it looks like this.

then grab your self a drill and make a pilot hole with the 1/8 bit. i drilled where the fender meets the fender apron. if you don't know what that is, feel the under side of you fender where it bolts on to the body and there should be two layers there. the apron and the fender. I did it just cu'z i'll sleep better if i know that my hood is resting on a solid place. and finish it off with a bit that's a bit bigger than 1/4". then use a rubber or plastic gromet the cover the hole.
it should look like this.

now your probably thinking great now the rod is too long for me to rest it on the rod support. relax you just gained about 50% more hood space compared to where it used to open up before. i decided to put the prop rod on the hood it self via 2 rod clips. I used a 1/8th bit to drill into the hood frame.

the result of all your work should look like this
