Axel is making weird noises.
Hi guys i own an 1997 maxima and recenly when i turn the wheels when driving its making cracking noises. I checked out the boot on axle and it seems like the most of it is gone by now. Heres the q. how much do you think it would cost me for labor on drivers side. Plus we're looking at different manufactures here so i'd like to know wich one has decent quality to treat me well for another couple or so years. Prices opinions. Thanks in advance.

Some people are going to tell you to get Raxles others are going to say AZ/AA/NAPA. From what I heard about Raxles is that they use alot of better parts, and thicker boots. Its a hit or miss with AZ/AA/NAPA as some people have had good quality axles and others have had ****ty axles. And the warranty at those stores are good to, cept after they break once and you get the replacement axle it has a 90 day warranty. So its basically up to you.
I would replace the whole axle if the CV Boot is cracked because it is just about the same amount of work to fix the CV joint as it is to replace the axle.
As for prices the dealership quoted me about 400 if I use my own parts. So anything under that is a good price. And I think it was for 600 for both sides and parts total... With the FSM or Haynes I am sure anyone with the right tools could do it in a few hours.... Save yourself the money and do it yourself...

id do autozone or anybody that offers a lifetime warranty on their axles. as far as quality, i havent had any problems out of mine but its good knowing if you have a problem with one, Autozone wont be to far so you can swap out your axle .

Thanks for fast respond. I know that would be better to replace axle myself and save. But i have to disagree with 90 days warranty on it. who wants to pay for axle+labour and then get it changed in 90 day if something goes wrong pay for labour again if im doing it at some random shop.

i had an autozone axle put on the passenger side, and a napa axle put on the driver side. about 2 weeks later i drove 1400 miles from miami to chicago. by the time i got home, the autozone axle was making noise and i now have to get it replaced. the napa axle has held up as of yet. the napa axle cost 70$. i would go napa over autozone.
