Question for Greddy SP2 catback owners:

Does this have drone problems at 2500rpm and over?
Any install problems?

I've an opportunity to get an SP2 and would like to get some answers before pulling the trigger.

You will love it and no drone. It's just a little louder than stock when your cruising.

Is it the SP2 or the WS2 that people have had fitment issues with as far as it hanging pretty low?

maxima985speed and maximabebe: thanks for your replies.
Next question: Do you have an aftermarket Y pipe?

With the stock Y-pipe the noise level is pretty quiet. I'm looking for some growl but no droning.

I've seen in old threads that the B-pipes for SP2 and Budget can hang low.

when you get a ypipe any exhaust will be loud bebecause your freeing up air and that will make it louder so get the catback see how it is if its not that bad get the ypipe

My current setup is Budget Y, Budget B with Magnaflow resonator and stock muffler. I'm just trying to determin if putting in the Greddy after the Budget Y is going to be worth it.

With an after market Y-Pipe it will not be much louder. But people will be able to tell that you have an after market exhaust though. The SP2 does have fitment issues, it does hang low and the muffler is a little crooked.

Oh I didn't read your previous post. I went from a Stillen Y-pipe with SP2 to now I have a Budget Y and B ad HKS muffler. The Greddy system should be quieter, I think you will notice a more hollow sound with the Greddy.

i love my sp2 it has no drone at all. its sounded much better when i swapped the car to 5 speed. i use to only really hear it when i was on the gas. with the stock y pipe it wasn't that loud. now i have cattman headers and y pipe and its sounds so much better.

I have warpspeed's aluminized y pipe with my LOVELY Cali spec car paired up with the SP2. Still relatively quiet. I like.

sp2=do you have an exhaust? must be a rear section only. Very quiet.

I had a sp1 and it was way louder.

Getting Cattman headers next.

I have a Budget Y with a SP2. Cruising you can barely hear it. Put your foot in it and it opens up!

I like it, you are able to have a conversation in the car and hear the other person just fine.

a lot of drone. specially under load. specially if you are auto. 3000 rpm and an uphill = 5 minute drone. a lot of rattling and squeeking too. i dont like my SP2. i would have if no drone and rattles.

b pipe DOES hang low, but it wont give you any problems. it has bees in the can sound during cold starts untill it warms up. its a QUIET exhaust compared to all the civics and teg's but its definetly much louder than stock. easily noticeable as aftermarket. my muffler sits straight. matched with a y pipe, sounds NASTY. even at start up, once you start it, it shoots out so much air, like you are boosted at 50 PSI. MEAN !!!!if u want i can take a clip for ya but my car is on jacks so i cant drive around.

VIP Maxima: you shouldn't have a rattling sound from the sp2. When I was putting on the exhaust, I replaced the metal bracket that was holding the cat and ypipe, because it was broken. I also noticed that both heat shields were very loose and so I drilled a hole in the connecting point of the heat shields so they were secure.
I also, had a fittment issue were the rear section muffler and the b-pipe connection was banging against my gas tank. I manipulated the hangers and all was good.

Just two suggestions were the rattling/bees noise could be coming from. I don't spend 400+ on a catback, especially greddy, and would put up with bees in a can sound. It's not the exhaust.

my bpipe hangs low as well, but its not a big issue. the muffler is dead center. My issue is a small hole in the flex section of my ypipe.

I have wrapped that thing 3 times now and the wrap always comes undone/ripped off of it. I guess thats what I get for being dropped lol.

Just curious: Since I already have the Budget B-pipe w/resonator, will the Greddy muffler fit it or will I have to ditch it and install the Greddy B-pipe?

you have to ditch the crappy budget bpipe. Greddy has their own b pipe that you need to use.

Now that I've had the SP2 on for a few days, how long will the droning last?
Someone said that it'll take a few months for it to go away. Is that normal?
The only time I like it is when I take my foot off of the volume control.

Did you buy it new? When I bought my cattman that sucker was LOUD. It was almost too loud for me but after about a month it became a bit more subtle and I love it. It's the y-pipe thats making all the noise at lower RPM but like I said give it a month or so and it will quiet down.

Yep, bought it new. It doesn't hang that bad on mine though.

After 3 days the drone is starting to bug me and the wifey. Oh no, I found a posting by Chunger where he's got 3 resonators on his Greddy. That doesn't inspire confidence in the SP2 does it? lol

So when you guys drive normally around town you don't get the drone anymore?

SS Y-pipe + SP2 are loud, and it only gets louder. Exhausts don’t get quieter with use; you just get more accustomed to the noise.

I got sick of it fast, had an exhaust shop make me a new b-pipe with a larger resonator.

Dasyce, what did that cost you to do and what size resonator did you get?
I don't want to wait a month to see what happens, so having a custom b-pipe made seems to be the only course of action. Read about Dynamat, B-Quiet, etc for noise suppression but it doesn't eliminate the noise completely.

Will a Magnaflow part # 10436 22" long and 4" dia. round body do the trick or will 6" dia. work?

you just need it to be bigger then your greddy bpipe larger resonator will make the drone go away and make it better to drive

Why would you want to get an sp2 upgrade for it to be quiet? I would want mine to sound like it is powerful. I ordered my y-pipe like 8 days ago and I had no status or anything. I feel like it is taking too long for me to get status on it.

Is everything bolted up tightly, do you have a leak?

On the highway cruising I can barely hear mine. Even with a little bit of gas in 5th it's not very noticeable.

Around town its a little louder, but really nothing unbearable.

Everyone who has an SP2 says that its quiet. Yes, its quiet except for the first 1500rpm from a standing start where it drones like crazy. Tried it on for a week and its hard to get used to that drone.

On the weekend I put my Budget resonated B pipe and stock muffler back on. The wife doesn't complain anymore and I'm thinking of what do to next. Either fab another B-pipe with a couple of resonators on it or hack up that beautiful Greddy B pipe. The cheapest route would be to fab one up with crush bends.
Oh yeah, cutting up the Budget B-pipe wouldn't be a good idea either when I can sell it.

I have the SS Budget Y, stock cat, and the SP2. Sounds great, quiet enough for talking and radio, loud enough that people know you are not stock. Nice deep howl at WOT (no fart cannon sound). B-pipe is slightly low (.5"), and had to do the hose clamp fix on the rear hangers to suck up and center the tip, but no problems since. I'm diggin' it...

how about using a cattman resonator to replace the greddy resonator, and then using the greddy resonator after the first bend?

i have the cattman b-pipe along with their resonator.

before i had a hack, crush bent 2.25 b-pipe, and it was pretty darn quite.
after i installed the cattman, its like night and day difference.
definately much louder and drones even more on the highway.

and my b-pipe does hang low. gonna try to fix that w/ the exhaust support bar...

I've had mine for 4 days now, with stock Y pipe and I hear my FrankenCar Intake more than I hear my exhaust. I expected it to be louder, but I like that fact that it doesn't sound like a fart can.

Maybe because I had no muffler for 3 weeks, I got used to the constant droning noise that this seems really quiet.
