help needed ASAP

about two days ago I tried to drive my car but when I slowed down or came to a stop the rpm's started dropping down to 0 and I would have to put the car in park and start it again. went through that about three times until I got home. the next day I go to take it to the auto shop and it works perfectly fine so they can't figure out what it is. that same evening the same problem again and it takes me forever to get it home. hard to tell what it can be. no check engine light on. any ideas?

well, i had a similiar problem, where my rpms started to drop low. It is regularly around 700 but dropped to like 200rpms and would cut off when i came to a stop. This happened right when I replace my knock sensor, sparkplugs. I had to remove my manifold to get to the knock sensor. Did you recently do anything to your car?

I just got a screwdriver and tweaked the Idle Air Control Valve. and no rpm drop or cut off issue anymore.

I haven't done any work on the car recently. all parts under the hood are OEM except for the optima battery and 0 guage wiring for the alt and batt.

an update on the situation. if i leave the car alone overnight in the morning it works fine for a while and then the problem starts again. it happens mainly when the car is on drive.

is it possible that it could be the spark plugs?

No, it's the IACV or lock-up tourqe convertor. Intermitten problems blow, you pretty much need it to be happening to try and figure it out, however knowing the mileage/maintenance/condition of your transmission would be helpful,. and also if you're O/D light is flashing after starting the car indicating that there is a tcm code........

Yeah lock-up tourqe convertor, 90% chance you're tranny is going to have to come out to replace the tourqe convertor imho, have the tcm codes checked, they may help to narrow the problem down to the convertor or the selenoid or circuits for the selenoid the 2nd two which are servicable with the trans in the car. You can scan the tcm codes yourself with zero tools but GOOD LUCK, they flash so damn fast it's absolutely pointless they're so impossible to read......

this sounds kinda odd -- shouldnt the mechanic figure out the problem, not the customer? i guess with maximas and the .org here to help its easier to do the research urself

ok i went to the mechanic today and checked out the tcm codes manually and all ten flashes were the same indicating that there isn't a problem there, he scanned the computer again and it came up with a code for a bad O2 sensor, could this be the problem?

ok i changed the spark plugs and the O2 sensor the car is drivin fine for now but the car is idling in D at only 500 rpms with the a/c off, the O/D light was flashing so i checked the tcm codes and it indicated a speed sensor circuit shortened or disconnected
