Have to sell the max

Have to sell the max
im being forced to sell my car to get something more fuel efficient. ive found a 1991 acura integra with a b16 swap for 2100 dollars, but i don't really have the money to support the max much less another car along with it. hopefully after i get out of school i can find another 5 speed max. sorry, i just needed a shoulder to cry on. look in the classified section if you are interested.

im getting 25mpg, and i could probably get more if i didnt drive like an a$$hole. get a tune up, clean your injectors, get a new air filter, keep the max and up the mpgs, win/win situation

I have never understood this.
A Decent tune up and the Max should yield at least 22mpg in the city. Which is pretty much the same as most other cars including 4 cylinders.
So let say you sell your car for 4k, buy the teggy for 2100 plus a tune up, any anything else that might need fixing on the car, plus emission, plus tag, doesnt sound like you'll be pocketing that much.
change your sparks, air filter, fuel filter, clean tb, clean iacv, properly inflate tires, if needed change o2 sensors and you should get great fuel economy.
keep your Max, you save more believe it or not

i'd have to agree with everyone else that has said to keep your max. as long as you aren't driving crazy you can get excellent gas mileage on your maxima.
plus you already know the problems that your maxima has and what has been fixed. with a different car, who knows what could show up. and that ultimately will hurt your wallet.

I'm not being forced to sell my max but it is going up for sale for some of the same reason. I always do the best for my max keep up with all maintenance and she always gives me problems even at the young age of 94k! Plus I only get 15-16 MPG with mixed city/highway. I have come across a deal I cant really pass up on a 03 OZ Rally Lancer from a family, that basically is my second family . As far as buying a integra I would buy one that is non-molested for reliability reasons but to each his own.

Keep what you already know! You know the probs with your car now, no timing belt to change, no TTL (tax, title, license) fees, your Maxima is worth more, much safer car, and by all means MUCH better looking! Just my opinon, but ... that is what your looking for, right? lol
Cheers, g'luck with whateva you do

you should sell your car for an older engine swapped car. im sure you wont beat on it a lot. and isnt the MPG when your in vtec like 9 or something ridiculous? maybe im talking about my ***, but i think i remember reading/hearing that.

I can't get 22 mpg in the city, but have never been as low as 15/16. There is something wrong with the latter car.
My car used to be used for commuting 11 miles each way in the city and I consistently got just over 19 mpg. However, on extended highway trips I can get from 29.5 to 31.5 mpg.
The questions I have for the OP are:
1. How many miles do you drive per year?
2. What is the split - city vs highway?
3. Do you use the car to go to school/work?
4. Is public transit availabe for point 3?
5. Do you make an effort to coordinate errands/trips?
6. Do you take your car out just to cruise around/Sunday drive?
Examine the nature of your driving and see where to cut corners, eg. public transit, walk, bike, coordinate errands, stop driving around with no purpose, etc.
I think you would be surprised to find what a change in your driving habits would result in.
Also be lighter on the gas pedal, reduce WOT bursts, etc.

great advice Bobo,
just to add, obviously a lot of stop and go is what can burn up gas faster, but more so after a stop you gun it to go, that will burn up much more fuel, than if your modest with the throttle and have some patients to get up to speed.
Try running an errand you normally run and you know about how much gas is consumed. Try that errand again but be light on the throttle and dont gun it, you might be surprised to notice how little your needle will move. I have tried this many times when trying to conserve gas and I've saved a lot.

Don't buy a car that someone else hads swapped the engine in if you are looking for reliability.
Buying a different car ONLY for better gas mileage is kinda silly, because think how much gas you could have bought for the extra purchase $$$. You have to consider the total cost of car plus gas.
Of course, if you are getting a new car already, then gas mileage is a great thing to consider - but if you spend $2k on a car that saves you $50/mo in gas, then you'll have to drive it for 3 years to break even.
If saving $$$ is the goal, then read up on tips for getting better mileage out of your car. Carpool if you can. Combine errands etc.
