Some Basic Questions

hi,

I now daily drive a 1998 maxima and i have a few questions:
First off the clear bumber lenses... they all seem to be around $60 shipped, why so much?
second, i have a stillen (copycat) intake... am i really getting the 6-7 dyno proven HP without any other mods. I would like to add a high flow cat because i've seen 10+ HP gain dyno runs with those. If you have an intake and a high flow cat, did you notice a big gain when you did this, and if you did them at diffrent times which was a better gain?
finaly i want to know about installing a stereo. My maxima has a very basic (non-Bose) tape deck, i have a new sony Xplod cd player i'd like to put in. I priced the install and its around $90... i have done a full system in my old Integra, is it hard to install a stereo in the maxima? If you've done an install on your maxima could you give me a few tips.

Thanks in advance,
Scott

Welcome to the world of Maxima modding, where nothing is cheap and everything is scarce. This is probably quite a shock from someone in the Honda community, where everything is well supported.

Probably. That doesn't sound far off. A y-pipe would open that up to 15 to 20 ponies.

Maxima high flow cats will make the car "feel" faster, but the gains are VERY minimal.....on the range of a few ponies. You MIGHT get 10 on the dyno if the cat is clogged, damaged, or old (with a 98 Max that's not likely)

Check e-bay on the clear lenses. They have many parts much cheapter. I got my clear lenses for $35 but I got lucky. Look into getting the diamond cut also. They are more expensive but look better. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cg...262177&r=0&t=0

To replace a stereo in a maxima is not a hard job, you just have to be VERY careful when taking the dash apart. I did mine myself with an installer helping me(its cheaper this way if you can convince the shop to let you do it). Definatley get a Y-pipe with the cat. I will have my Y-pipe and cat put on either tomorrow or wednesday. I'll let you know how it feels after they are on.

I've heard maybe +1 Hp maybe even 1/2 hp if you lucky from the cat but intake is louder sounding and maybe 3 or 4 hp and 7 maybe 8 from CAI
