Fuse question

Ive got a satellite radio that plugs into the cigarette lighter, It kills the fuse like once a week, my question is, Can I change it from a 15 amp fuse to a 20 or 30? or will this be dangerous for my radio? any other suggestions to fix this problem?

It has a set fuse amperage for a reason. Sure, putting a 5 over fuse in it may not damage anything, but I'm pretty sure that a 30 amp fuse vs the original 15 will cause damage to the wiring between either the batt and the fuse box or the fuse box and the cig lighter. The entire point of the fuse is to blow it before the limits of the circuit are reached.

How much amperage does that damn thing draw?

I have no idea what it draws. It happens only when I plug or unplug it while its running.

Well you could always simply turn it off before you unplug it

^^^ Thats what I was thinking. Have you considered hardwiring?

I dont think it will harm it if you go up in amps, correct me if Im wrong its the maximum input of power that a fuse can handle, which is why it blows. I think your getting a big power surge from the sat. radio, or you may have a short in the wiring(either the sat plug or cig plug wiring). I have the samething it doesnt blow my fuse its not supposed to.

Do you have anything else running of the same circuit ? i would assume no if you did not do any mods. If so i can suggest two things:
1: Get rid of the radio and get one that doesn't have that problem.
2: You can run a 12 gauge wire from the battery to your radio and put a 20 amp fuse on it. If that blows get rid of the radio.
