DIY Question (alarm beep)

Last night I stopped by radioshack and picked up the necessary pieces (just over $10) to set my car up so it beeps when I lock it (95 SE, flashes lights, but no beep option)

I followed the directions on VQpower (http://www.vqpower.com/v2/readarticle.php?article_id=49) and everything works. I am thrilled with how it works, the instructions were simple etc.

The thing is, the beep is so faint when the trunk is shut, you can barely hear it if your not standing right next to the thing. Anyway know a way to make this louder? I don't want to wake the neighbors, but Id like to hear it from a few parking spaces away. could I just pick up a bigger buzzer? maybe use a relay/op-amp combo? Let me know

Maybe mount the buzzer in the spot where the license plate light is so it points out? or get a stronger buzzer? I wonder if a small car's horn would work.

Maxima985sp: fair enough, its not something crazy... But I want it to beep. I know it doesn't add security, or anything for that matter, I'm doing a fuel cut off for that. Just some appeal to me and makes me smile when I lock it up tight in the parking lot. Adds about 1oz to the car, and took no time to set up, I think its probably nicer than some of the other mods (altezza's and strobing lights come to mind).

JPMax: I actually like the Piezzo Buzzer sound, sounds like an Audi when it locks. It just very soft. I don't want it to be a horn honking..

Any help or comment would be appreciated

Extend the wires and run it out through one of the grommets in the spare tire well, mount it by the EVAP box or tuck it behind the rear bumper.

pmohr: you think just having it out of the trunk will help? Do you have this done?

It should be a lot louder outside of the trunk. Back when I first joined I did this mod, a lot of the guys said that ran through the grommet and ziptied up in the rear bumper or wherever was a fair bit louder than just inside the trunk. I took this mod off a long time ago though.

I have mine mounted behind the rear bumper. There was that foam bumper piece that I used to screw my beeper module to. Works fine to me and I can hear it pretty far away.

Thanks, I'll try the foam support tonight.

pmohr: why'd you dump the mod?

Eh, got annoying. Two relatively long tinny little beeps just weren't really doing it for me. Besides, the lock motors are loud enough that you can hear them while walking away, so the beep really wasn't needed.
