Goodbye maxima

Goodbye maxima
hey guys,
So I crashed my max almost two weeks ago from this coming Monday and I'm still feeling sad for the car that I had so much memory with...
here are the accident pictures again http://picasaweb.google.com/Keluoy/99MaximaCrash
I let the insurance company (statefarm) totaled it and they are in the process of mailing me a claim check for $8707. I'm not buying the car back because of some logistics problems.
So I was in the market for a new car. I thought I was getting a scion TC because I already read positive reviews about that car...until I actually went to the dealership and test drove it. The car drove terribly without expensive after market parts because of weak engine and handling. I also just couldn't go from a large maxima to a tiny scion TC. Then I went to a nissan dealership and test drove a 2007 altima. I loved it and it fit my budge! I bought a car from them with a different color next day.
There are a list of things that gained and lost from moving from a 1999 maxima fully loaded to a basic 2007 altima 2.5s.
Gained.
no more mechanical problems for at least a while
push button start with intelligent keys
CVT with manual mode emulating a 6 speed
better mileage
rear seats fold down
super long range (600 mile plus)
A NEW CAR
CAR PAYMENT
Lost
mechanical problems
205 feet/pound of power (but the 2.5 isn't exactly weak)
leather interior
sunroof
heated seats
automatic climate control
ABS
CHEAPER INSURANCE!

KOOL man, i like those new altimas. The're light, and those 4-cyl are peppy enough for average daily driving. I do however, find myself drooling over the 270HP 3.5 version. I can't beleive they made the new altima lighter, and put more HP into it than that of a new maxima. I think NISSAN is trying to shift the paradigm.

Congrats on the Alti and staying within the family.
Surprised you got 8k that's really nice too...and I just took a look at the pics.
How the heck is that Grand Prix untouched?? It looks that way from rear bumper, compared to the max. Kind of scary.

I hate to break it to you, but that 2.5 is pure crap. I am on my second one already.

Also, the precats break up and the substrate material gets sucked back into the engine, scoring the walls of the combustion chamber and leading to prematire oil consumption issues.
Lastly, many recent ones were recalled right off of the showroom floor to replace the engines. The problem is, even with all of the recalls, many VINs were impacted that were not recalled (mine, for example). Nissan refused t admit a problem and instead chose to cover some under warranty, if you argued loud enough. After warranty (60K powertrain) you were fuxored.
Just check the recall records to see what Nissan has ADMITTED to as problems on the QR25DE in the Sentra and Altima...then triple it to see how many vehicles were most likely truly impacted.

The 07 Sentra has a "revised" QR in the SE-R/SpecV versions, but the problems may not manifest themselves for 20-30K- just as they did in the B15 Sentras.
I odn't remember if they are 07 or 08 Altimas, but a bunch of the 2.5 Altimas were recently recalled. Google and altimas.net are your friends.

I read up on all the problems that phenryiv1 mentioned and just leased the 07 3.5SE 6spd. Def better then the 2.5 in every way. I've checked many times every where i could and can't seem to find anything bad on the 3.5 so i'm set...
P.S. The 3.5 alti owns the maxima as if the max was a 2.5...

LOL, yeah, it's funny how the max got downgraded to 255HP and the alti gets 270HP and weighs a good 300lb less
Did somebody say:
0-60 mph 5.44 seconds
1/4 mile 14.09 seconds at 98.62 mph ?
Thannks for the heads up on the bad 2.5 engines

Well...the 3.5 didn't fit my budget at the time. The accident happened a year earlier than what I planned for replacing my vehicle. I purchased the car in a hurry and that's a big no no for my future decisions.

there's no way i would've switched to an altima from a max. i would rather get an older max, like an '03 or older. i still cant believe you got 8,707 for your max. i know blue book for these 4th gen's like the back of my hand and you got an extremley generous adjuster, trust me.
