My '99 SE came as an ultra-base model apparently and lacked things like lighted visor mirrors, intermittent wipers (which I added later), keyless entry or any of those goodies.

While installing my stereo a while back I discovered that my car came prewired for Keyless. Great I thought; grab a module, relay, and remote and I'm good to go.

Of course after I sourced pretty much every part, I got to thinking. The one person I've found that retrofitted OEM keyless into their Maxima said they had to replace the BCM to get the system working. Is this really the case? I guess it wouldn't be a big deal, but the chances of finding a 98-99 5speed Max in a junkyard around here are pretty slim, let along having to narrow it down to one that came with Keyless.

Another question I have too; my '99 has the Transponder key. Is the code for that stored in the BCM? I'd rather just ditch the idea and go aftermarket if I need to replace the BCM, even more so if a replacement would involve having to get the thing reprogrammed to work with my key...
