EVAP canister valve

EVAP canister valve
had a code on the max and it was the canister. and the valve was stuck close. A few days later the engine light went off and I has been a few months since that happened. Is this something that has to be fixed or should I wait until the engine light comes back on. The dealership whats like 450-500 to do the job. I see it was a service bulltin back in 2003.

What I did to fix my stuck valve was take it off the EVAP canister and spray some WD 40 in there. I then manually moved the valve that I saw was stuck and when I put it back on and resect the ECU no more code and no more problems.
Its not the end of the world and you should try and fix it or test the valve before dropping $500 for a new one.

first off..the evap canister vent control valve is only a 100 bucks new from the dealership..i went and bought one and replaced it in under 5 minutes..its right under the rear driverside tire and if u can spray it with wd 40 then give it a try.. i had to pass emissions quick so i didnt have the time to mess with it also the code came on right after i replaced the oxygen sensors. if the whole canister needs to be replaced then the cost is reasonably higher..also it depends on the year of your maxima because the newer valves off the 97 and up maxima wont work right with the older maximas and youll have to get the whole canister replaced..hope this helps
