DBM - Coolant Temp. Sensor Questions

Couple questions about the Engine Coolant Temp. Sensor
Is it located in the block prior to the rubber hose leading to the radiator? Small, about half inch in diameter with wire harness attached?
What would cause it to fail?
Repurcusions of not replacing it soon?
Thank you for your help.

I don't know what causes sensors to fail. There are no moving parts to wear out. Perhaps the sensor tip which is exposed to coolant is subject to corrosion.
The consequences of leaving a bad sensor in the engine depends on just how bad it is. You may experience hard starting, stumbling upon acceleration, excessive fuel consumption. If your engine starts and runs well there is not much reason to replace the ECTS.
