The wheels get dirty from a combination of road grime, tar, exhaust, and most of all, brake dust. The fronts get dirty more because guess what...your front brakes do most of the braking and they dust more than the rears.

I use Eagle One wheel cleaner. At first I thought it was junk, but let it soak in and hose off and it actually works. When the wheels get really dirty, I spray with wheel cleaner let it soak, and then scrub the nooks and crannies with an old toothbrush.

I detailed cars for 5 years while I was going thru college. The strong wheel cleaner works great from chrome and will work (see below) with clearcoated painted wheels. If you have polished Aluminum wheels that are not clear coated, don't use the strong degreaer wheel cleaner. You will be polishing for a while to get the shine back. I watched a guy practically ruin a set of wheels on a corvette that way. His job was saved with the dremel tool and Mothers Aluminum polish.

If you have painted wheels and use the stuff, you are slowly eating away the clearcoat on the wheels. If the paint is not clearcoated, you will notice your paint slowly drip off the wheel. No kidding. The best thing to use on them is a poofy soft wool soap mit (that you use only for the wheels) with the same soap you use on the paint and water. And, Yes, The toothbrush works wonders also.

Not trying to say what you guys are using is bad, just be careful with it on some wheels. I have screwed up my share of wheels with that stuff and don't want anyone in the org to have that happen to them.

I have a big brush that has long really super soft bristles that I bought at Advance. Really gets into everywhere and just use the auto soap.
What about tire dressing? Anyone have a good long lasting suggestion?

For the tires, mix simple green with water, 1:1 ratio. Spray it on the tires, scrub the tires with a hard brush and wash it off while scrubing with just water. If you do it right, you will not need armor-all or any thing like that on the tires. The oily spay on tire products will make you tires AND WHEELS a lot dirtier than without them. The brake dust will stick to it and don't even think of taking your car off paved roads. If you get your tires good and clean with the simple green, they will be dark black and stay cleaner longer.

Some older tires (like mine) are beyond help to get them black again. I have cleaned them repeatedly for the past couple of months and they still are brown after cleaning them. The wipe on gel is the best "back to black" product to get. It will stay on for a longer time than the spray and not dirty your wheels.
