since getting my maxima a week and a half ago, ive only chirped from first to second gear 2 times. my friend with a 1988 325i (four banger!) can chirp from 2 second to third! i have two theories why i cant chirp from first to second: 1. my tires are too sticky
2. since the maxima is FWD, the weight of the engine on the front wheels gives it alot more traction.

anybody please respond?

ive chirped from 2nd to 3rd only once, dunno how, but i did. the theory of the engine weight causing more traction might be somewhat right. for instance, RWD cars have better traction on take off due to the weight transfer. when a car takes off, more weight is transfer to the rear of the car giving the rear more weight and better traction. but i guess going 70mph already, the car wont transfer as much weight around like on take off leaving the front heavy, but now im just rambling and talking on, not sure what im talking about....

Never chirped third, but if your an automagic like me i dont think you can chirp third without some serious boost of sorts. Maybe a 5spd can do it with some minor mods. you can always ask SX7r how he did it, if that was him who did it.

Possible causes for no chirp ...
- sticky tires
- road surface has good traction
- clutch does not lock up instantly

Chirping the tires when changing gears is an abusive driving practice. It stresses the drivetrain. Don't do it.

Good Call Daniel. You're definetly right.
