Vibrating stick?

My stickshift vibrates when the car's running. I assumed this is normal, but was curious. How much should it move, how much play should there be, etc? I've heard you're not supposed to rest your hand on the stick when not shifting...why is that? As far as I can tell my car is running fine, but want to know the early warning signs of potential problems. Thanks.

its totally normal as long as we arent talkin bout inches of travel... it should be like looking at something if you were stone drunk... vibrating a lil bit.. a small blur... i've never heard about not resting your hand on the stick...

it depends on exactly ur situation but it doesnt seem like a problem...

hhmmm, well it does state that the topic has appeared before. sooo, if the person who asked the question was smart enough, maybe they would've used the search funtion. btw, what was the point of our post, it doesnt state a question nor does it answer a question either
