i know it may have been covered before, although i don't recall when, i realy want to mod my max, however i have a couple probs. 1. My daad won't let me mod it bcause he doesn't want a, as he refers to them "mexican band wagon". 2. i've already done mods like pedal covers and other things along those lines, but i want HORSEPOWER!!!

So heres my question, what mods if any add decent horspower, w/o much added noise and don't cost an arm and a leg. i know this sounds stupid, but, you can't blame me for wanting to Maximize my Maxima, even though i wanna keep it on the DL. Lata

Get Unorthodox Underdrive pulleys and if your 5 speed get a Aluminum Flywheel and you could get the HKS Twin Power ignition upgrade, you could go as far as NOS. All these things don't make noise. A Jet or Jim Wolf ECU upgrade, you could Extrude Hone alot of your parts Theres a lot of stuff u can do that makes little noise.

You didn't quantify "decent" or "an arm and a leg".

I think the simple and true answer is "none". Decent horsepower improvements don't come cheap.

by arm and a leg i meant like over 550 bucks, school costs me enough so i don't have much left over. sorry about the ambiguity of my statement.

Now we know the budget, $550. The next question is "decent horsepower". How many horsepower do you consider as fair value for your $550?

The right course of action is to decide on a budget and a horsepower goal. Then do the research to see if your goal is attainable within the budget. If it is, there may be several ways to achieve it. Further research and advice from Maxima.Org members will help you choose the path which is right for you.

Here is another important question: What is your degree of mechanical interest and expertise? Are you capable of installing mods or will you pay a professional to do this work?

by decent horsepower i mean like at least 5hp or so. And to your other question, im a mechanical engineering major so im very mechanically inclined.

thanx

UR UnderDrive Pulleys (6-10 hp) - $200-250
Ignition (4-6 hp) - $300-500

I would say a Y-Pipe, I hear the new Cattman SS ones are relatively quiet. About 300 bucks, worth about 15 HP.

my only prob with underdrive pulleys is that i have a 1500 watt sound system and need all the speed from the alternator that i can get. i had thoughtt about them but i don't wanna risk the chance i may blow my amp from a lack of power and i don't wana have to replace my battery in the near future if i don't have too
