I think i am going to order a new Y pipe from Budget Exhaust. The Pics look like quality products, the welds all look good and everything , the pipe looks smooth. Anyone with this mod? any feedback ?

Their website is http://www.budgetexhaust.com Their y-pipes are really cheap! Its $325 in Canadian dollars, so around $212 in U.S. dollars. But what about the quality in build? They use the same type of SS that Cattman uses, T304 stainless. Well, anyone with them, some feed back on it would be nice! Thanks.

Just ordered mine today 8/13

The price was $300 CND. That's to your door price. I should have mine towards the end of the week. Unfortunately I wouldn't be able to dyno before and after since my Cattman's pipe is cracked and I've done other mods since I had my car dyno'd when I had a good pipe.

In any case, I am going to get my car dyno'd after the install. Hopely I can post the results towards the end of next week.

Anyone else had good experience?

This might be the way I will be looking to go. I was curious if anyone else has had as good of luck as bags533? I know even with higher $ ones like stillen or what not that it is almost 50/50 as to whether or not it is gonna hiss. Thats why I am looking to see if it is the same with this. What else they make worth looking into?

Haven't been on this forum for awhile, just got back.

Just wondering, did this y-pipe make the car a lot louder?

The budget Y-pipe is definately a good item. I'm running it. It hissed for maybe a month after I got it, and then died down a little .. I think it still hisses a bit, but I can't hear it because of the intake.

As far as it being louder, it depends the exhaust tone a lot. It doesn't increase noise too much, just sounds deeper. Bastards have lowered their price on it .. I paid $400 installed for mine.

Budget Y Pipe...

I was running a straight section of pipe in place of the muffler before I put in the muffler, meaning I had no muffler. The car sounded good, not too loud. After I put in the Budget Y pipe, it was very very loud and throaty, not a bad sound, but just very loud. You could also hear the sound of rushing air when you got on the gas at around 3000rpm or so, I wouldn't call it hissing.

I put my stock muffler back on, and noise levels are almost stock. I can't really hear much in terms of growl or hissing or any of that.

When you order your pipe, be sure to specify which material you want them to make the pipe out of.

btw, fit and finish were excellent. The pipe bolted right in and all the fitings lined up fine.

Price which to get

Hey I was looking on the site and seen the different steels and prices, which you get? Which would you recommend? I forget off hand the prices but is it much cheaper than the others out there? Like Stillen or Cattman?

Cattman and Stillen have mandrel bent pipes, so they have better air flow...aka more HP. But I would like to see a dyno between the Budget non-mandrel bent and another pipe (cattman or stillen) and see what the hp difference is.

Emissions issues?

Are there any legal issues with installing the Y-pipe? According to the Cattman website, the Y-pipe will increase emissions when the engine is cold since it removes the precats. Emissions should be normal after the engine is warmed up since the regular cat is still in place. Will a muffler shop balk at installing the Y-pipe? I don't live in a strict state (e.g. California), but I don't know what the federal laws are on this.

One place I went to would not install the Y-pipe because it was aftermarket, so they couldn't guarantee the quality, but they never mentioned emissions. But then I went to a speed shop and they had no problem.
It depends on your area, but I think you should be able to find a place that will do it. They don't care if you fail or pass emmissions.

The maxima is an efficient car, and shouldn't have problems with emissions even without precats, as long as you have the main cat.

I know a bunch of guys that were running y pipes , cat backs and random tec high flow cats , and they passed emmisions no problem. The only thing that might be a problem is the noise. I know california has some kind of regulations on how loud a car can be, and they tend to be a little unfair to import guys (says sport compact car). But i know in NJ ,Y pipes arent a problem. Hope this helps

Plus one pipe is not the only thing that is tested on emmisions. It can depend on your whole car. I know plenty of people with stock cars that just will not pass. If your car is running clean before hand then you should be able to pass fine. If it is just tuned properly ( not just performance but maintenance in general) then you should not have that much of a problem.

Re: Price which to get

Even though they have different prices listed on their website, when I called and asked, the price was the same for both steel types at $300 CND shipped to your door. I do believe they charge little more for polished. If you use your CC, I believe they use the previous day's exchange rate to charge your card. Currently it's $1US to $1.53CN or mult $CN*0.65342

So Unless my Math is off ( which is very possible) it will be just under $200. Much more affordable that almost double that for others. And the general concencous seems to be pretty good. Any idea though how much more HP is to be expected?

My area does not even have an emissions inspection, so I'm not worried about that (although I'd prefer not to pollute anyway). I just want to make sure that there's not some kind of overriding federal law that prohibits shops from removing a catalytic converter. For instance, I believe that there's a federal law against removing the primary cat from any car, although there are some exceptions. Since the Y-pipe only replaces the secondary cats, that shouldn't be an issue, but you never know with federal regs.

Where is that? I thought every state made it mandatory. Huh guess you learn new stuff all the time.

I live in central Virginia, 60 miles from the nearest big city. The air here is very clean, so there's no need for an emissions inspection. I used to live in the Northern Virginia suburbs of DC, and they have a biannual emissions inspection requirement.
