Hello. I read the 4th gen. mainentance faqs and after visiting all the stores on that list none of them carried the parts that I was looking for. If anyone here has actual purchased replacement struts for the hood please post where and how much. Thank you.

You might want to just check at a Nissan dealer or even a jumk yard for them. They seem basic enough that they should have them.

Those things are very price, running at a hefty price of $50-60 a piece I think you want to go the second route.

No, guys, they're $16 apiece for aftermarket replacements, but very hard to find. I need them, too, but can't find them in Pittsbugh. He's asking if anyone definitely knows where to find them.

Well, following the instructions in the sticky, I found the Strong Arm #4524 supports in about 1 minute. Here's the link:

It says ships in 24 hours, so I imagine you could get some fairly quickly. I was also under the impression that AutoZone could get these fairly quickly as well if you wanted to go local, but that doesn't look to be the case.

ok well i have one weird thing to say, well i found some at an autozone in midland,tx once and that plac had al kinds of aftermarket things, mostly apc, also mostly honda/acura, but they had strut bars, intakes, shifters, ebrakes, altezzas, and all sorts of engine dress up accessories, it was kinda wierd they had all that stuff and here in austin we dont have anything like that at our auto stores

Im in Cali too and ran into the same problem that you are. Bill99gxe or someone posted all the cheep parts #'s and whare to get them. I just bought and installed a set of strong arm 4524's. It ran me 39.27 total. you can give them a call at 877-808-0698 or get them online at partsamerica.com. Hope this helps you out.

I got the left and the right hood strut from carparts.com
I paid about $65 plus shipping. Check it out. Less cost than the dealer. They were like $28 a peice at carparts.com

Are theese tough to replace? My hood keeps coming down on me when I am trying to work under there and it is a pain. ANyone swap theese out already? How tough are they do do?

I'm willing to bet money that I can call various parts stores around here and purchase any of those numbers outlined in the sticky. Regardless, partsamerica.com has them in stock and ready to roll. I'm sorry you are unable to follow instructions.

Install instructions are there as well. Daniel B. even wrote them, so no one will complain. If I had written them, I'm sure they wouldn't be good enough. But I digress on the double standards.......

Yeah I realized and read it right after I posted that. Sorry. Oh what it did not say though is how much longer that they are expected to last compared to the stock ones. I have a 98 and although my little brother finds it funny to have the hood come down on me while working I oddly enough dont . Thats why I am replacing theese ones but curious as to how much longer they should be expected to last me.

I think it's hit-or-miss. The struts on my brother's '91 are nice and strong.

As clearly specified on the partsamerica.com link for purchasing the Strong Arm hood struts, they are lifetime warranted. How easy/difficult it is to get service or replacement is another story......

I would like to apologize for my reply. There was no harm intended. I was simply trying to say that after visiting auto zone, good guys and kragen auto parts none of them had or carried the parts that were on that list. I did not visit Napa as there isn't one locally. I think you should remove the information for those stores that do not carry them so it clears up some of the confusion.

My hood kept trying to "cut my neck" while I'm working on my 96Max so I know it's time to replace them.
I went to the Autozone a few days ago for this strong arm or whatever and they said they've to place an special order for this parts.
I might order directly from the website but wait! I ain't got no cash on my bank account!!! ahhhh~

They were very easy to install on my 91 SE, just make sure you have a prop to hold up the hood while you install them.
My hood never fell on me, it just fell while it was up. I knew then never to get under it while I had it up without being proped up

It hasnt really fallen to bad but the propping it up with my back setup is kinda old now. Time to order some strong arms I guess.

Keep in mind that the Strong Arm/Gabriel 4524 ones ARE NOT available through carparts.com. The 3rd gen ones are two different numbers, one for the driver side and one for the passenger side. They are more expensive, at $28 each.

Partsamerica.com is the quickest and easiest way to get them.

Has the price gone up, I thought in the sticky it was something like 8 bucks each or something? Could be wrong. No I gotta pay more i guess, Oh well.

Go right ahead and phone your dealer parts department. Ask for a price on those hood supports. Prepare yourself for a shock.

The inexpensive StrongArm replacement hood lift supports are made in the USA by AVM Inc, part of Arvin Industries. See http://www.avminc.com/strongarm/ This company is an Original Equipment supplier to auto manufacturers. If StrongArm can sell hood supports through retail stores at $16 apiece and make a profit, you might think that Nissan could do the same.

Why is everyone making this so complicated? If you can follow instructions, there should be no questions in the first place.

The Nissan OEM part number and price ($68 EACH at discount) is in there for reference. What is so hard about reading it?

I was the one that provided the part # and where to purchase them from. I got that info directly from Strong Arm. I was not told that they have to be special ordered. I also went to the stores and found out that I could not just pick them up over the counter. I ended up ordering them from Partsamerica.com, which by the way is owned by Kragen. Anyway sorry for the confusion.

I checked the stickys for the instructions to replace the hood lifts, but I could not find it. Could someone point me in the right direction or provide instructions. Thanks

Thanks, but I have the struts already. I was just hoping to find better directions than the ones on the back of the package. I don't know if i need to unbolt the ball mount and put a new one on.

Yo I got a pair for my 99 max on ebay for $36 bucks shipped. Just search under, "maxima hood Struts", so many of them there for sell!! brand spankin new!!

leave the ball mounts. just pop the old one out with a flathead screwdriver and pop the new one in. by far the quickest task ive done to my car since owning it.
