Anybody ride H&R with stock shocks? Can they take that spring and drop? Or is the Tokico the way to go with H&R?

Your car is relatively new, so the shocks should be in a good condition. I would recommend you to keep your stock shocks and install H&Rs for now, and save up for either Koni or AGX adjustible shocks. Don't get Tokicos, there are a lot of people unsatisfied with their performance.

I have a 97 and i have to stock shocks w/ the H&R and everything is ok (knock on wood). Like AndyXXL said "Your car is relatively new, so the shocks should be in a good condition."

I have this setup

with 63k miles on the stock shocks and the ride is just fine (the H&R's are new). I am waiting for the AGX's if they are as good as everyone says b/c I didn't want to cut through my OEM front stuts.

Hope that helped,
Eric.

Sounds good

Thanks for the feedback here guys. I just don't want to lose the nice smooth ride the car has. Just the gap!

What about alignment issues? Camber angle & Toe? Check it after the springs settle down? I think I read someplace that toe may change a touch?

Yes, I've heard that you should do an alignment.

but

- wait about a week for the springs to settle
[though some say you don't have to wait]

- and remember that the rears can't be adjusted
so don't pay for work thaey can't do.

I have some H&Rs but they are currently only insatlled in my garage,
so I can't say anything from personal experience yet...

I plan on keeping the stock shocks untill they wear out
then AGXs [if they ever really come out]

Yeah wait about a week. Get an alignment and balance and rotate for ****s and giggles. That's what I did anyway.

yeah, i got H&R with stock shocks, been running it for ALMOST three years now (H&R install was almost 3 years ago). My original shocks still work fine after 40k, though I'm tempted to upgrade. :P

anyone know about Sprint springs with stock shocks/struts? I have a 98 with about 51k miles on it. Will I run into problems even if I have them on for only about a month before I get koni's?

black019, it's probably best to wait for struts to come in so you can save on the install and install both at same time, unless you doing this stuff yourself. But stock struts should definitely last a month, unless they're already very worn.

i have intrax , they brought me down 2 inches like the sprints do. I have 68,000 on my stock shocks . no problems yet, ive got about 10,000 with the intrax in ( i just traded strut assemblies with my friend when i bought the shocks so it would be an easier job) so i have quite a few miles on them , and there are still no problems with them. Eventually youll have to go with konis or KYB AGX's . I would go with the new KYB when they came out , there is less work to be done than with the konis ( koni is just a shock insert and you need to modify the strut )...hope that helps

What about Progress springs and stock shocks with 25K on them? This one guy is selling them used, and I wanted some input about whether they're worth getting.

How many miles?

Hey mrb23:

I plan on doing the same exact thing as you. I have ordered a set of H&R Sport springs and I want to use my stock struts/shocks. Here's my setup:

1999 Nissan Maxima SE-L
48K miles
Enkei 18*7.5 RS6 wheels w/ 235/40R18 tires.

How many miles have you driven since your H&R springs? 40K total or 40K since new springs? How does one know that the struts have given-up and needs a replacement?

I am wondering how long before my stock struts give in...

Please advice...
