I noticed several posts about how to street drag race a 5spd, should I drop the clutch etc. I've also seen alot of people put up post about cars they got beat by, that they should not have gotten beat by. So this post is for every male or woman who thinks they know some good points for drag racing.

Keep it on the track, but not everyone can. Just be safe when doing it. I don't have any tips, b/c my friends say I'm a bad driver

Street Dragging

Well, in California if you get busted for blatant drag racing... the cops can take you to jail and permantly sieze your car... they sell the car and keep the profits and then you get to pay huges fines and jail time and raised insurance on top of having to go out and buy another car...

It has to be pretty blatantly illegal for the cops to bust you for it... I think if you race away from a traffic light up to the speed limit or maybe a little more... the most you'll get is a speeding ticket (you can just claim you were not intending to race... just that the other guy wanted to keep up with you)

But when you are lined up in the middle of the street and one car on the wrong side of the road and a flagger is standing out there to signal the start of the race...and there are like 50 or 100 people just hangin out in their cars watching... well then you'll get busted... You just can't say that you weren't intending to race...

I've been the unwilling passenger a few times in illegal street racing.... it is definitely not fun... 90+MPH down a street with several access points and trees and other nearby fixed obstacles which will instantly end your life if you hit them at that speed... definitely scary...

My friend was just crusing along with some buddies and we came upon a drag scene already in progress so he lined up his car much to my protest and raced anyway... Just after his race the cops showed up and everybody went running for their cars and my friend was the first car to flee the scene and then everybody just followed him... nobody spread out... So the cops just intercepted everybody but since nobody was actually seen racing, they just gave us all stern warnings...

The IN & OUT BURGER joint in Milpitas, CA is a notorious hang-out for illegal street racers... Some genuinely fast cars but a lot of ricey stuff too... but they all try to race...

I agree. Keep it on the track if you can. If you're gonna try to kill yourself out on the public roads, don't take anybody with you... Drive within the limits of your car and your driving skills. When in doubt, shut it down. Live to race another day. Vaya con Dios.

My friends best friend was riding in a 98Maxima while the driver was drag racing some guy in a prelude. To make the story short, the Maxima driver crashed into a pole and my friends best friend who was sitting in the back flew out his seat and shattered the front windshield with his head and passed away at the age of 19. I am pretty sure that the driver didn't crash intentionally. You should of seen his mother at the grave griefing with her little daughter.

Don't be immature and selfish, you are not just risking your life, you are risking the innocent that are on the road. Why should someone who is driving or walking heading home to see their loved ones be at risk just because of a stupid selfish minded ediot wanted to have a little "import street racing" fun. WHY?

Go to the track and go all out. But if you can't resist, then I hope the other guy who is dragging you smashes into you and kills you before someone else gets killed by you. Just my 2cents on drag racing, and don't forget to "think".

Sorry, I went a little overboard, but if you avoid it then the possibility is the same? Since anything can happen at any time why don't we all take 10 pills of Xtasy and have some fun....afterall you said " **** falling space junk can get you at any time, all things are at all possible at all times. whats the point of making your car faster

Is there if you cant go fast and any way when I do go 140mph in my car I make surre that there is no one else on the HIGHWAY but me and just me in the car if I have some one else in the car I dont go past 130mph and still never unless Im on the highway and its not like I do this on a daily basis just once in a while you go nuts. I also know some people who take 10 pills of extasy on aweekend basis and they are still alive so pick a diferent drug to compare death to . Its not like there is a track every where the closest one to my house is a good 50 min drive and its not exactly free or empty

I'm relieved that you only go 130 with people in the car.......like things happen so much slower at 130 than 140. Your just as dead at 120 than at 140.

It's hard to when the excitment is on but try to remember how you would feel if something stupid happened and you had to look your friends family in the eye........They may say go faster but it's your responsability anyway. Just keep it safe....a race to 70 is one thing but 130 mph is another. Its not like I've never done it but its scary to think back what if???

My opinion....

I'm certainly not going to criticize anyone for anything...heck, when I was 18/19 I used to drive drunk out of my mind which if you ask me is waaaay worse than speeding or racing.
Being a little more grown up/responsible now(I think)..I admit that I do at times still drive at "extreme" speeds when I feel the condition is right. However, I often think to myself....
#1...What if you hit another car/person walking or whatever when you were speeding/driving recklessly....Imagine living with that the rest of your life.
#2...What if I got in an accident all by myself but was seriously injured or killed...what kind of impact is that going to have on my family/wife/kids having to grow up without a dad etc. etc.....kinda selfish of me....

A kid got hit today by a car outside my work...don't know if the car was speeding but I think the kid died. So often in or society we see death in movies or hear/see of it on tv and it's not really real to you. When something like that happens to someone you know...it's a totally different story.
Sorry if i'm preachin.....like I said..I'm no saint myself but every now and then you gotta stop and think.

Josh

It's nice to have a "fast" car but you can only do the speed limit or get caught with a ticket or lose you license, or lose your life or kill someone elses wife, child, dad, husband, child, etc,or you be in a wheelchair for the rest of you life it's your choice. Or a tree or light poll or guard rail will stop you from 140MPH to 0MPH in no time and your family will have to suffer the loss of you. Keep it on the track nad then It's not safe llook at pro racing NASCAR,CART and others any kind of speed can kill you 35MPH,55MPH,100MPH,170MPH motorcycle = death on 2 wheels. 600MPH a 747 plane. Be safe and where your seatbelt.

Before anyone gets on a track they have to do a few things. The first is sign a release. Everyone on the track knows it's dangerous and accepts that. In the road racing I used to do there was a tech inspection to make sure that (in my case) the bike wasn't going to fall apart. New riders were also given some basic instruction and the safe way to get around a track.
When you race on the street you violate everyone elses right to reasonable safety and put them at risk. This is why if you kill someone you get charged with manslaughter. No one has the right to risk someone elses life without thier consent. As to your own personal safety, I think you have to be nuts to race against someone you don't know. You don't know if they're straight. You don't know if their car is about to break and go out of control. For that matter, are you sure you car is perfect? And you never know what's going to happen next on a public road.
