If you subscribe to SCC, on page 200 in the Sept 2001 issue, there is mention of the coating on the throttle body to allow the throttle plate to seal properly. I'd thought you'd like to know

"RC also applied a special paint to the throttle bore to better seal the plate - the same coating the sotck throttle body uses for the same purpose"

ahh gosh. I sprayed Carb/Choke & Throttle Body cleaner ALL OVER my throttle body and butterfly valve. I guess it's ruined now huh? if not that, then it'll build up carbon deposits a lot quicker. damn...

I had A LOT of gunk in there though...the previous owner must've been really harsh on the car with some 87 ocatane.

I wonder what everyone considers 'alot'. I had a light dusting of soot on mine, and it was never cleaned before. Others say that they had at least 1/8 of an inch in theirs.

about 1/8, that's about right. Think about this....I used my nail to try to scrap it off, and I didn't see the metal yet under the scratch I made.

Thank you for the pointer. I do not subscribe to SCC but found them on-line at http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com/ The on-line articles do not have page numbers so "page 200" is not useful information. Please give the article name and I will follow up.

Please don't take offense. I am a born skeptic and nobody's word is good enough for me. My own mother's word isn't good enough for me. I always want to check a reference. For the same reason I strive to support technical information in my posts with a specific reference to the Maxima Owner's Manual, Chilton, Haynes, a manufacturer's Web site, etc.

There's too much misinformation floating around. Obsolete information and silly ideas are exchanged at the barbershop, the pool hall, and the Dairy Queen parking lot. Some fellows accept preposterous ideas at face value because they heard about it from their cousin who used to work at Quicky-Jiffy-Iffy Lube. At least once a week this forum carries a post about the Check Engine Light coming on at specific odometer readings or resetting the Check Engine Light by disconnecting the battery.

Project 200SX 1.6L is the article, under "RC Engineering Throttle Body" section.

I'm one of the handful of people that knows what I'm talking about - I don't spit out BS. I see bad info floating around but I don't have the patience to wait for this slow server to load 4-6 minutes so I can make a reply. The most recent one I remember is the guy saying that it's okay to drive on four of five lugs since there are cars out there on four lugs... sheesh.
