I have a 98 SE with an OEM y-pipe, a year ago when I got my muffler installed, the car would make a "shhhhhhhhh" sound when turned on untill installed. I didnt mind it.
But now whenever I drive close to like buildings or other cars, I can hear a "SSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHFFFFFPPPPPFFFFTTTT" sound coming either from the middle or back of the car, could it be my free-flow exhaust releasing the gasses that fast? My car DOES seem a little sluggish lately...
So, how can I test if my y-pipe is leaking withouth going to a mechanic?

Raise the car and support it on sturdy jackstands. Start the engine and let it idle. Slide under and listen to the Y-pipe, up close. If there is a leak you will find it. Watch out, don't burn yourself!Originally posted by Sunrise
