All I did was go to my local craft store (Michael's here in So. Cal.) and buy the stained glass red Krylon spraypaint for ~$5 (and I even had a a 40% coupon too!). As for matching, it doesn't really 100%. It might be good enough for you but if you are picky like I am, just go over the stock, inner, red lights as well. Good luck. If you have any more questions, don't hesitate...

Or you can use Testor's "Candy apple red model paint" which can be found at Michael's or Walmart. It's a very close match but you'll need 4 or 5 layers. I put a clear coat on top of that to help it from fading.

David Lau uses Vans red tail paint:

www.lightningmotorsports.com has it for $30 a can and its a perfect match , on my tails from him anyways!! Kinda pricey but you will see the best results from it.

I know this question might sound stupid, but do you paint the inside of the lens or the outside. I heard mixed things about it? Any info? Thanks

Either. Obviously the outside is easier to do but you face the problem of them eventually fading. I did the outside and it took over 2 years before it started to fade. I think most people paint the inside but if I'm not mistaken there is a little portion around the perimeter that doesn't get painted if you do the inside. Maybe someone else can elaborate on this.

yeah, when David Lau did my tails they came out with a small line around the edge of the lense. He painted all of his tails from the inside, there fore they will never fade and always look stock, except if you go up close. I have seen tails sprayed from the outside and IMHO i like them better cause there is no clear gap. Im thinking about hitting my tails up with 3 coats of red-tail paint to cover up the gap that i have.

heres a pic of my tails, find the gap :

i was going to do the inside, but now from what you guys are saying, i'm not sure... can you put a clearcoat on the Vans paint? ..otherwise it will be dull right?

I don't see why not. Most of the paints that have been recommended are pretty glossy anyway so it won't look that dull. I used the clear coat mainly to protect the paint.

Is David L still around? I think there are enough 95-96 owners here to get some done by him again.

I heard about his great work, but never knew where he went after the last group deal.

...I'd be more than happy to do them for you guys for free. Give me an e-mail and I'll give you my address. Just ship them to me and include enough for return shipping and paint (and maybe $2.99 for a value meal lunch at McD's if you feel generous) and I'll do them as soon as I can and get them back out to you. Keep in mind I do the outside but I feel I am pretty good at it now and I think it looks good. Or, if you prefer, I have written fairly detailed instructions for another .org member and I can e-mail those to you. Whichever you prefer.
