In most cases the best choice is to replace the axle assembly. The part costs more than only a boot but ...
- the labor is less
- you get two new boots and two remanufactured Constant Velocity joints

If your Maxima has high mileage, or if the boots have been damaged for a while, your CV joints may already be badly worn.

The Chilton and Haynes repair manuals contain detailed instructions for replacing the axles.

The so-called Quick Boots (a/k/a Split Boots) are not durable. I advise you to avoid them.

i just replace mine yesterday, let me tell you, don't do it at your won't garage, go to your friend's house, next door, just don't do it at your own garage. first you have to remove the axle from the tranny and wheel hub.

1. cut the CV boot open.
now you can see the ball join and the grease.
2. there is a ring that hold on to the join so the join won't fall out. remove that ring.
now you should have the join apart(don't lose the ball bearings).
3. get a vest clamp down the axle, remove the knockle with a hammer. (just hammer the hell out of it)
now you shold have just the axle by itself
4. put the new CV boot on
5. put the cup in
6. hammer the knockle back in
7. use the greas that came with the CV boot, squease it into the CV boot.
8. put the ***** back in place
9. slide the other half of the join back in
10. put the ring back in
11. tighten both end with a metel zippy tigh. (shold come in the box along with the CV boot, grease)
