I am new to Maxima's, just having bought my first one the other day. Awsome car! I love it! Does anyone know how many 5 speeds were made as opposed to automatics, total production #'s, or where I could find this info? Thanks-Matt

Well... New Zealand got 80, thats right just 80 manual 4th gen max's. According to the nissan dealer, it was a shipmet for Australia, but something happened and NZ got them. Sucky aye?

I heard in an automotive magazine article (I can't remember which one it was) that only about 10% of the 4th Gen. Maximas were sold with 5-speeds. Although I have no idea actually how many they sold altogether, so I don't know actually how many cars the 10% equates to.

Over here, the maxima is a sold as a peformance mid size family car, not as a boy racer car. Most people that own maximas are family who would never ever do anything to their cars. So I guess the 5 speed with a 3 wouldnt sell as well as an auto if its aimed at this sort of market. Ive never even seen a 3rd gen with a 5 speed

Bloody Kiwi's

Australia got about the same number of manual A32's. I've seen two for sale at the same dealer in the last month. Unfortunately no 5 spd 3rd Gens though.

P.S. Fush 'n chups, sucky aye

Glad it was not here

Glad here in the US they made a decent amount of 5 speed ones. It was hard enough findind a 4th gen with bose and 5 speed.

Re: Glad it was not here

I heard that only 5% of all 4th gen produced were 5 sp. I think bill or jambo have the exact stats.

Actually the exact numbers were 94%/6% as compared to Saab which was running almost 50/50 auto/stick.

I didnt even know they made the I-30's in a stick. My mom considered buying one before but the dealership told her they didnt make them that way, it was part of the luxury having an Auto. this was buying one new in 98. So she got an Auto in her I-30.

I heard 5% also... so the 94/6% split sounds reasonable. Now does anyone know how many Maximas were made each year?

a little off topic

But what is the real difference between the SE and GLE? If you get leather in the SE they are about the same right? Suspension differences? But if you put a suspension kit on it they are the same right? get a GXE and do the suspension... you'll save like tons of loot on your max, and get it in a stick. Most of the higher models are for luxury, so go down and pay 1500 to have leather installed. Do the suspension/500bucks. and you have an SE for 1500 off the price difference. =) I'm not sure of those prices, but I'm sure it's all relative.

SE GLE have liquid filled engine mounts, auto climate control (those digital controls), polyurethane bushings on the suspension, 16inch rims and tires, splash guards on SEs and alot of other stuff I cant remember.

a GXE, with mod'd suspension and rims along with a 700 leather package from leatherseats.com comes out pretty similar to an SE or GLE. Only thing I kinda want on an SE that i cant get on ym GXE is the body color grille and no chrome window/door trim. but then again it isnt too hard to get.

Not available with the 5-speed transmission.

Dubious value, IMHO. They break and are expensive to fix.

While I was car searching (recently, having bought my Max about a month ago), I found many automatic SE's and a few 5-speed GXE's with high miles. I did find one '98 SE 5-speed with 40k but the dealer wanted $19,900 or something crazy. I can't believe so few 5-speeds were produced, especially when I think a lot of Maximas are sold to former Honda owners who wanted a 6-cylinder with a 5-speed.

I got lucky in my search, I purchased from an uncle who always drove manual sedans. He used to have a '91 SE 5-speed that I absolutely drooled over, but then he sold to someone else instead (didn't know I was interested.) Then he bought a '98 SE 5-speed with limited options (no ABS or bose.) Knee problems made him buy an '01 GLE and I bought his '98. I got it with the easiest 34k miles; he barely drove it and religiously followed the maintenance schedule.
