#1
I need help on changing the bulb behind the gauges...i got as far as unscrewing the top 2 screws and popping out a little bit of the left side, but then it seemed like it wouldn't pull towards me any more, are there any locks behind the gauge that i should know about?
Also i wanted to ask you guys is changing the bulb to another color going to make the gauge display that color or not, i have a GXE 1997 maxima.

Cheston's site www.maximadriver.com has some instructions for installing colored/indiglo gauges that might help you. Check under the HOW2 section.

I got a better one if you want to see some pictures for the instruction. I followed the below link last week to replace my bulbs to blue. ( i don't like red)

i took a look and it seems that there's too much that i don't need to do to just replace the bulb, could you send me the steps you took to remove the gauge dash and put in a new bulb...that would make it a whole lot easier, thanks.

I never thought of that. maybe I should try to replace the bulbs by not remove the steering wheel column cover next time. But I think the steering wheel colume cover was somehow blocking the gauge cover and the gauge itself. But, I'm, agian, read my profile, a newbie. anyway, it only took me like 5 mins for the process of removing the wheel column cover.

yeah i thought there was this whole debate that 97-99 had surface mounted LEDs that you had to rewire behind the gauges and the 95-96 had the plug and play wedge bulbs?? anyone know the facts on these??

I changed my bulbs to red. No, I didn't pull off the stearing wheel piece. Unscreew the 2 top screws. then pop out the cruise control and the dimmer switches and if you look in there you will see a couple more screws and you will also notice that the guage bezel is held on by clips there. Unscrew those screws and clips and start pulling and bending the bezel out. Good Luck.

Same process, unfortunately, you can't change the bulbs in the 1999. So far, no one has been able to find a different colored replacement bulb.

Yes, I like the blues. But I'm not sure how it looks for your white face but i'm sure somebody has it done, like the one that i posted the link. Mine was like soft blue even though it is not as bright as the one who has the 194 LEDs (the guy who post a pic on the forum couple weeks ago but blew out couple LEDs).
Just be careful about what bulbs you buy because unlike red, the color tend to fade away on certain bulbs. I've changed them many times already in a week (just want to experience the different bulbs and color) and my suggestion is that don't buy those cheap ones in autozone called lighting technologies. Those Sylvania sold in walmart last much longer. now, i use Prolargs from japan, really bright and seems like the color never fade. want to try LED but no money.
