Emissions with a Y-pipe?

I want to get a Y-pipe, Cattman, I think (that is open to debate too, if people think there are better ones out there, please let me know). I have to pass emissions every year though. Will my Max pass emissions with no pre-cats and just the main stock cat as long as my engine temp is up to normal? I'd love anyone's opinion, but especially from someone who has tested and passed emissions under these circumstances. Thanks

Go with Stillen, louder. I passed emissions with my RT cat and Stillen Y. Where are you at, I passed emissions in Denver...but I dont know if it would pass in Cali.

Aaron,
What's up man!
I just got a Warpspeed Y-Pipe today for my car. From what I've heard if you drive around for a bit before you take the actual test you'll be alright. I think you only have to get the test every other year or so. I know I didn't have to do it last year with my car.

is your car running federal or cali emission?
with the vehicle at normal operating temp. you should be able to pass emissions with just the factory main cat. you really don't need the pre-cat to pass emissions. BTW what state do you live in?
i'm from massachusetts and we are running cali emissions here & as long as the car is warmed up the main cat will do the job just fine

The 2 precats are for cold start emissions only...after your car is warm they are just restrictig the exhaust flow and robbing your car of power. You will NOT be federal emissions legal with an aftermarket Y-pipe, but you will pass state emissions tests.

I know its not legal, I stated that, and you are correct...you cant just take it to any old shop...be careful in your selection process.

Emission test this weekend

I'm going in this weekend with a CattmanSS pipe. I'll post my readings after I "run". We've got those new dyno types...

My car is not Cali, I don't believe...does anyone know how I can find out? Either way, I'm in a suburb of Seattle, WA... How can you tell on your car/engine if it's built to Cali or Fed. emissions standards?

I didn't even know there was a difference between Federal and State emissions- Where and when do Federal emissions matter, anyway? When do they test for them?

The California model has the two precats on the factory y-pipe. I don't think the fed spec models have that. Easiest way to tell a CA model is to find out where the car was originally purchased.

It also says whether its a cali car or not right under the hood. When you lift the hood, theres a sticker right at the top. I have a cali car so on non cali cars it might not have a sticker, i dont know.

Not to my knowledge. I've looked under 6 or 7 maximas that are 4th gens and I live in Colorado. All of them have had the 2 pre-cats. I think the cali emissions ones just were more restrictive and also had an ecu diferentiation. Not sure on the ecu part though.
