Question about dome light

Does anyone know how to make the dome light slowly dim when I close the door? Right know the light will turn itself off right away when I close the door..dunno if I am explaining myself well....

that would be nice......none of my interior lights even work right now......i think one of the wires that goes from the fuse box to the interior lights in the car got cut in half or is "broken" i forgot what my interior looks like a night.

I think there are two different things here on my 96 GXE(maybe on all 4th generation):
1. when the driver side front door closes, the dome light keeps on for about 20 seconds then turns itself off (delay);
2. when it turns itself off, it does not gradually dim then off, it turns off right away.

My 94 Altima has none of the above, and my 2000 RX300 has both delay and dim. I was thinking about adding dim feature too. I think it needs a control circuit including a transistor as a variable resistor to handle the bulb current ...

This fade-out feature is sometimes called Theater Lighting. I like it.

The '87 Stanza which I drove before buying Plain Jane had this feature. My POS '84 Nissan pickup has it.

The dome light in the 4Gen Maxima is controlled by the Body Control Module. I doubt this electronic module can be modified.
