Speed Restrictions?

I hear that maximas have speed restrictions and you need to get a chip to override it. Since I drive an I-30 (97),
does that apply? And where would I get such chip?

Who told you this? Not true, especially in your car.

there was something about a speed limiter in the gle's i think. and you can buy an ECU chip which adds up to 10 extra hp.

From what I hear, you dont have the limited if you have the C&C package. the low end GXE's without the C&C are limited to a specific speed from what I hear.

Speed rating of stock tires = speed limiter?

My previous car was a '97 GXE 5-speed with no options except spoiler and radio/tape deck. It had a top speed limiter at around 115mph(could sometimes be plus or minus 5mph), I know 'cause I reached it about once a day when I was commuting 70 miles to work each morning. It's stock 15in tires were "S" speed rated (safe up to 112mph). My '99 SE has the stock 16in tires which are "H" rated (safe up to 130mph) and as soon as I bought it, I took it up to just over 125mph to make sure I didn't have the limiter. It still might have one at 130mph, but probably not judging by how fast some of you guys have gone. Maybe GXEs with factory installed optional wheels with higher speed rated tires don't have the limiter.

This is just a theory of mine, Daniel B. Martin or somebody else might know for sure.

BINGO, the right answer. Good thinking.

Here we go again...

I have a GXE with the C&C package and a limiter...I promise.

The ONLY way to tell if you have one or not is to go out and try to go 140mph.

This, of course, only applies to GXE owners.

How to remove the limiter...

You have a VERY odd car. 3rd gear is only good to 120 in EVERY Maxima, I promise.

6600 RPM in 3rd is at 130MPH, i assure you. Dont let the autotranny shift automatically for you at 6100 RPM, it'll shift at 115mph.. just leave od off and let it tear all the way up to 130mph.

I don't think there is much need to go past 100MPH anyway.
This isn't Germany with roads designed for >100MPH speeds.

Besides; in California, you must go to court if you get caught at 100MPH or over. And it is up to the discretion of the judge whether you receive jail time. Not worth it.

You should have never hit the brakes, just kept going and made him catch you, if he could. Keep in mind, I am not familiar with what fhp runs with.
