I have a 95 max GLE, while driving there is a whining sound coming from the front left wheel. My first thought was replace the brakes since it was due but NO such luck.. Someone please HELP

 

When you post a new thread on this forum please strive for a meaningful Subject line. In this case Whining sound from front wheel would convey more information than Help!!!

A whining sound such as you describe could come from the brake or wheel bearing.

1) Verify that all wheel nuts are tight.

2) Raise the car. If you have a floor jack you can raise the entire front end at once, and test both front wheel bearings. No need for jackstands, as you will not get under the car.

3) Grab the top of the tire (12 o'clock) and push away from yourself and pull toward yourself. Yank it to and fro in this fashion several times. If there is noticeable free play or a "clunking" sound, the wheel bearing may be damaged.

4) Spin the wheel. If it spins freely but makes ugly sounds the wheel bearing may be damaged. If it won't spin freely the brake may be dragging. This could indicate a sticking caliper.

5) Remove the wheel. Make a careful visual inspection of the brake and surrounding parts. Look for ...
- a stamped sheet metal baffle plate which has been bent and is rubbing the rotor.
- a pebble or other foreign body which is trapped and is rubbing the rotor.
- a brake shim which has slipped out of position and is rubbing the rotor.

 

Are you sure it's not the brake ware indicator touching the rotor? Perhaps the splash guard? Bearing? CV joints usually click so we might rule that out. Rotate your tires front to back and see if that stops it, could be tread noise from a bad tire. If all else fails just wash and wax it, that usualy makes mine ride better

I had a small rock get lodged in between my brake pad and rotor. It made a nasty squelling sound for a few seconds untill it wore down and must have came off.

 

Can you hear it all the time, or under certain conditions?

 

I dropped my max off this morning at the nissan dealer, as it turns out Midas brakes are not for my car. So yet another $162.00 for new brakes..

 

Wait... no way! You don't have to spend that money! Go back to Midas and complain! They weren't the right brakes for your car, Midas made a mistake, why do you have to pay for their mistake?!

Not to mention that these are brakes! Brakes stop the car, your life could have been in danger!
