Raybestos Brake Pads - which one ???

Hello All,

I need to install new front pads soon on my 99 GXE

Searching thru previous posts and the sticky, I feel that Raybestos would be fine for me (if Raybestos is fine for DBM, then it should be fine for me. Period. I value DBM's opinion very much) - and I am not a very aggressive driver.

Raybestos has 3 product lines that are suitable for 99 Maxima

1) Raymold - Organic - (Part # RPD 653) - Around 25 bucks
2) PG Plus - Organic - (Part # PGD 653) - Around 25 bucks
3) Quiet Stop - Ceramic - (Part # PGD 653 QS) - Around 55 bucks

Does anyone know what the relative benefits are for one vis-a-vis the others ?

Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

:)

I just did my brakes on monday. I just got the cheap ones that ran 25 bucks. I also went to the dealer and got the brake kit with the clips and shims. The shims fit good on the rayobesto and I had no trouble. I put a little brake quiet lub and it's been ok. The kit from the dealer was 25 bucks plus tax.

Forgot to say this was my second pair of the cheap ones and I had no problems. I also used them for the last 10 years on my Datsun 510.

I got the PG Plus I think (red ones)
I did not put any anti squeal on them at first.
They squealed like hell!
So I took them back of and put them back with anti-squeal.
It helped but they still squeal a lot.
And I still heve to take the back ones back off.

hey

Did you use the shims that came with the pads or the factory ones? The first set I did I used the shims that came with the pads and it still squealed. This last time I went and got the dealer shims and have not had any sound yet. It's only been a couple days tho.

I used the factory shims
The pads didn't come with much of a shim, if thats what it is supposed to be.

I put the NAPA Ceramix (same as QuietStop) pads front and rear on a 95 GXE with the shims that came with the pads. After 800 mi they do not squeal and are not nearly as dusty as the factory pads. I am very pleased with them. It is my wifes car and she does not drive aggressively.
Good luck.

I just installed the Raybestos Quiet Stop ceramic pads on the rear of my 99 GXE and I am very happy with them...just make certain you have the caliper piston tool to rotate it back into place unlike the front which can be compressed with a C-clamp.
