How many miles is the Maxima good for.

Still looking for a Max, just came acoss a 95 in mint shape, Bose, Leather, heated seats (MMMmmmm heated seats) , 5 speed. But it has 151,000 Miles. For $6,500.

How many miles can you expect to get out of a well mantained Max before you have significant power loss, or start to expect problems? I know it will vary depending on how the car was maintained and driven but I am looking for a general idea.

And is this a good deal?

I'd pass. I think you can find much better deals out there now.

I would get a full inspection, compression test and maybe even an oil analysis. If it has been taken care of, it should run well over 200k without major repairs.

Although I think the Maxima can go a LOT more, especially a 5spd VQ, I'd also pass.... That is a lot of miles. I've seen 95-96 fully loaded Maximas going for 7-9k $..... This is with miles below 100k. So I'd look around, I doubt anyone will be jumping on this deal anytime soon anyways. Look around, you'll find one with 1/2 the miles for a grand or two more...

I'd have to agree with the guys. I see 95-96 Maximas with 80-90K in that price range whenever I search the classifieds. Not that I think Maximas are no good after 100K, but a friend ran his 95SE up to 175,000 miles before he got rid of it and it ran like new. I would recommend buying from a private individual as opposed to a dealer because you will get it for a price much closer to wholesale and you can get an idea of the person is like and how they treated the car. Most people sell their cars privately because they were offered what they feel is too low a price when they went to trade it on a new car. I find you can negotiate a private seller much lower than a dealer. Right now is a good time to buy because the WTC tradegy has slowed down the business tremendously.

wise man say ...

I like the comment Daniel once had. I think it went something like this...

"The man that maintains his car for the first 100k miles, will be rewarded with another 100k miles."

It all comes down to the maintenance. If the owner or dealer can provide service records and you think the price is right, you could consider it. I would also consider previous owner driving practices. A car that has been abused may still have great service records but may be on the verge of a clutch or transmission failure.

Of course, as others pointed out, check out other deals to get a better data base.

Good Luck

Thanks for remembering that maxim. The full text is ...

The man who drives moderately and maintains meticulously during the first
100K is rewarded with reliable service during the second 100K.
The man who abuses his car and neglects maintenance during the first 100K
doesn't get a second 100K.

That's what I am thinking of offering. It's a 96 SE with every option and one owner, he was a salesman or something. I checked the title on carfax, no accidents, one owner. The interior looks perfect.

Guess I'd have to say I'd pass also...

I'm in the process of finalizing the purchase of a used 95 GLE which is in great shape and has 58K--for $9,500.

Keep your eyes open for more private sellers....

and I'll be seeing more of everyone else here in the near future as a try to ensure my "new" max is adequately 60K serviced
