Testing Cylinder Compression.

Will someone please give me a break down of the steps to do this. I already purchased the testing kit and am not exactly sure how to go about doing this properly. In past posts, I read to pull the fuel pump fuse before turning over the ignition. Doesn't there have to be fuel in the cylinder for the spark plugs to ignite to get the combustion? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I'm not sure but this is what I did ..

Remove all the coils ..
Open the spark plug that you want to test the cylinder ..
Put the tester in it ..

Switch the car on it will not start for sure because you removed all the coils with full throttel ..

See what is maximum that you get ..
It should be about 180 PSI with the orignal bore ..

Remember you should start the car many time till it stable with full throtttel
Sorry for my bad English
Except to say to crank it at least 6 seconds and pull the fuel pump fuse, you pretty much got it.

According to the Haynes manual you should also remove all the spark plugs and not just the coils.

Won't make a difference.

Its easier on the starter, and it will take less cranking to get the peak compression. Its how I do it.

What would you check compression for? Is it just to make sure everything is running fine?

So........

Thank you for your help guys, but I'm still somewhat confused. Do I take the fuel pump fuse out before I begin doing the tests and leave it out until I'm finished? The coils are just the plugs that snap on to the spark plugs right? I think I've got it now. I hope.
