60K tune-up

I'm at about 59.9K at this point...and since its recommended to do a tune-up at 60K i wanted to get a head start, in a sense.

I looked through my Chilton repair manual and it has loads of maintenance parts of the car that have to be done...

But which are the most essential parts that have to be replaced/maintenanced at a 60K tune-up?

would it be better to do myself or maxima dealer?

thanks.

Things that must be replaced:

1) Change oil and filter
2) Change air filter
3) Change spark plugs (uses 60k intervals)

Optional, but recommended:

4) Drain and refill coolant
5) Drain and refill ATF
6) Change fuel filter

That's it! Everything else is a bunch of checks and inspections.

If you're at all mechanicly inclined, do as much yourself as you can, then take the rest to the mechanic...but pretty much, all of it can be done yourself. If you take it to the dealer, expect to pay $500-$700,

plus, if you do it yourself, you know EXACTLY what went into the car, AND you get the pride of having done it yourself (not including the $$$ you saved)

I agree with diesel9119. Do it yourself. I just did mine on a 96 SE. It was my first tune on a max. It wasn't to hard. Changing the fuel filter gave me the hardest challenge. I used the website breaux124 mentioned.

Yeah, that fuel filter can be a *itch if you don't know to twist it off the fuel lines. They are like Chinese finger cuffs.

ok, well a oil change/filter every 2.5k...and air filter i just put in a new intake...so i guess i'll only need to change spark plugs and do couple of checks....
What do you recommend OEM spark plugs or some other maybe better quality spark plugs?

thanks

OEM plugs are actually NGK platiums, so just stick with OEM.
They're a little pricy, but that's what Nissan recommends.

THANKS!

I'm at 59.5k now...

One thing.... in my service manual it talks about checking/inspecting belts as part of 60k service..... I get a squealing noise when I start up the car which goes away after some time.... Someone (190hpkilla) and some other people suggested that it may be belts? Can anyone confirm that? maybe they are loose or over tightened? Which belts? thanks...

I'm going to do it all, including ATF flush with synthetic redline fluid, then I want to get the tranny cooler in as well...
