Hello. I used the search function to do more research on the subject and after reading numerous posts I applied anti-squeal compound on the back of the pads and the back of the shims yesterday. This did not help the problem. Mainly I hear a squeal when I come to a complete stop and a groan when letting of the brakes.

Also, sometimes I hear metal clunking sound when turning as well. This seems to come from the rear as well as from the front. I'm not sure if this has to do with the brakes or the SE suspension which I had installed. It didn't cause any other noises besides this.

Anyone that has a lot of experience on the subject please shed some light.

Did you try applying the anti-squeal on the two metal clips that hold the top/bottom of the pads onto the caliper, both sides? Those clips do vibrate and can cause the noise you described. I was waiting to get picked up at a nissan dealer and noticed that on a 4th gen maxima they had put alot of yellow anti-squeal compound on those clips.

groaning is a sound of ither warped rotors or pads are low and they are touching the rotors

My brakes are also squealing and groaning, and the Nissan Mechanic who inspected it for me told me I was approaching 60k miles, and I will soon need new pads and resurfaced rotors. Hope this help!

Mine did this for 2 days earlier in the week but I haven't heard anything since. Weird. I ordered new pads and rotors but there is no more noise.

I just cleared up my squealing problem with my right front brake. Apply grease to the back of the pads, clips where the brake pad slides and the inside the caliper. Clean the pads and rotors with brake cleaner to make sure you don't have grease and dirt on the braking surfaces. No more noise.

This is coming from BRAND NEW pads and rotors! What do you mean inside the caliper?

There are parts that make contact with the pads to press the pads to the rotor. Grease every part where something is going to be sliding when in action.

ahhh just don't grease the rotor!

My brakes had been squealing for a while, even with new brake pads. When I cleaned my brakes with break cleaner the squeaks and squeals disappeared. It was just Autozone break cleaner.

I lubricated my entire brake system today with anti-squeal compound I bought from Pep-boys. I did the shims, backs of pads, caliper slides, caliper and everything else in sight. Man, the brakes are like butter now! I cannot hear any noises at all. I think I'm going to do my rear ones this weekend. Or maybe I'll wait until I get my rear rotors turned. Highly recommend doing this to anyone who has any squeals or groans in the brakes.

what kind of pads were you using, aftermarket? i'm having the same problem with brand new aftermarket brake pads. i've taken them off twice and applied anti squeal. i only applied it on the pads though. it worked for 1 day and then the squeal came back. what are the shims and all that other stuff? what does it look like? gotta get rid of the stupid noise.

Take them off again and apply the grease to every part that allows the pad to slide also. When I did mine, they were dry as a bone so no wonder they made tons of noise.
