y-pipe and emissions

Im sure this is dumb but i have to ask anyways...I live up in MA and we have a new emissions test that is more thorough than before. I keep seeing that y-pipes are for the track only but tons of peeps have them. Does it hurt emissions at all? Thanks

Supposedly if you let everything get warmed up before taking the emissions test it should be fine. Some say to drive around for 45 min before taking the test. I am in the process of getting a y-pipe but here in AL we don't have emission tests so I dont have to worry about anything.

I passed in CA with the pipe. Took me 2 times because I didnt warm the car long enough(15 min @highway speed) and I had to put my stock intake on because they require that the air temp sensor be hooked up. after another run I passed 100% perfect

Im pretty shure you will be fine when they do the test but Im not too shure if the guy does a good visual inspection. The guy whi tested me just peeked under the car for about 2 seconds just to check for the cat but if that guy would have seen I had no precats then there goes $40 and 30 min of my time.

I bought my 97 in MO and brought it to MA so I don't think it has the same emissions package on it that the MA cars are supposed to have. With the JWT Popcharger it passed easily on the dyno with the new MA test. The key is to make sure your car is warmed up thoroughly, at least 20 min. and it should be fine

Why not start a recent thread on this?

Not all is wonderful in the emissions world - I've got two strikes against me and goin for #3 today. Car was VERY warmed up last time. 15min or 35min didn't matter for me. I'll post later what happens...

We'll #3 test was worse. HC now at 1.4gps - passing is <.60. Each time I repair something it get's worse
