Coolant Leaking???

Hey Guys/Girls,

My wife's 96 with 144k miles recently has coolant gone out from the reservoir to the Ether slowly, like 1/4 of quart every couple of weeks. Checked the engine compartment and under, couldn't find any traces of leakage. There is no coolant from the oil, as I can tell. I filled the reservoir with 50/50 mix of distilled water and Prestine to slightly under the full mark while the engine was cold. But the level dropped back down to between high and low in a few weeks. The same thing happened for the last 3 months already. Where is my coolant going? Any idea?

I appreciate any of your insights.

When the engine is running, open the hood and check for any coolant spraying out from loose hoses or anything.
You may want to do this when the engine is already warm.

Also, check the exhaust, and see if it smokes white. White smoke is often a sign of coolant entering the exhaust.

If coolant is leaking into your engine that would suck. Check connections.

aaaannndddd no, i just replaced my rad 4 months ago and the only way to check for leaks is to get it pressure tested. it only takes them like 3 minutes to hook it up and test, i had a crack in the top of the rad which is plastic. also, there's a line going from the rad to the block called a coolant bypass hose that might be leaking so have the rad shop check that as well. and please, go to a place that specializes in radiators cause all the rest of these morons won't know what to do. good luck>>>
