Break pad replacement issues
Break pad replacement issues
Ok so I recently changed my breaks. Front breaks was no problem. I ran into some trouble with the rears.
The cylinder in the caliper would not push back in the! I tried but it was very hard and didn't want to put more tension on the break line so I just put the old break pads back in and called it a day.
Is there a pressure valve that I forgot to take out or something? I mean the hand break is released so I figured that would do the job.
Does this mean I need to replace the caliper?

I think you have to twist them as you push them in. There is supposed to be a tool that you can buy to make it easier.

You definitely have to turn the piston as you push it into the caliper. There are several simple, readily available tools to do this. I bought one (called a disc brake piston tool) marketed by CTA manufacturing corp, Carlstadt, NJ - for $10 (several years ago). The one I got was CTA part #1455. It works like a charm - I've used it on several different cars.
Yeah whatever you do, do not get that tool from Pep Boys because when i did mine and bought their tool it was completely worthless. All it did was turn and not push it in, it ended up breaking the same day i bought it and they wouldn't give me a refund...
