If your car is at .5 RPM there is something seriously wrong with it, and I dont think it would be on at that point either. I think you are refering to 500RPM and trying to get it to 1000RPM(which is a bit high for idle)

The normal idle is 700 + or - independent of transmission type.

500rpm

I am actually having the same problem, except sometimes the car just stalls, when the car is in motino it runs fine. I changed the spark plugs and bought fuel injecter cleaner and it still low on idle. I do here a hissing noise from underneath the car, if i were to have an air leak, how could I find it and how could I fix it.

Adjusting idle speed can be found here: http://web2.airmail.net/scutchen/max_faq/

Which can be found here: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?threadid=39141

Which you should have read before posting.

RPMs:

700 +/- 50 (automatic transmission, in Neutral)
625 +/- 50 (5-speed)

I thought somebody said something about not messing with the idle adjuster earlier in a DBM post. I can't remember who it was and couldn't find it in search but if something is making your rpm go that low, chances are changing the idle adjustment is a "quick fix". You should probably find out what's causing it and fix that instead.

On idle my car is at 500 rpm and it feels fine. I wouldn't worry about it unless you feel like it's going to stall.

Might want to check you throtle and idle cables if they are loose they will jack up your idle adjustment and also if you tighten them both your throtle reponce with be much better im talking a whole lot better.

Check your vacuum hoses for any type of leaks or "Falsse Air". False Air is when your MAF is getting a leak somewhere and it will cause it to make bad readings controlling where your car is idling at. For example if it feels it is too high/low then it will change your idle accordingly maybe it finds it high in your case and lowers the idle. Just athought.

On my '97 GLE the idle RPM is about 550, and my '98 GXE the idle is at 750 rpm.

idle issues

Hey for about a month now my stupid car was shaking at 550rpm when idleing, well after chagin sprk plugs, and adding all those stupid fuel injecter fluiding to my tank nothing happened, then someone suggested that I spray throttlebody fluid in my throttle body because some crap my be in the throttle. and it worked, now I am at 770rpm, no shakes, thanks to whoever suggested that for me. its a pain in the *** though, i had to take the filter box out and the thing with the senser but it was worth it.
