Possible oil change problem

I changed the oil tonight in my maxima. I used a nissan filter and some oil amsoil that I had. I ran out of amsoil and had some generic fluid laying around so I used that to top it off. The problem I ran into was that the generic oil bottle looked the same as this generic ATF fluid bottle. I grabbed the ATF fluid bottle and accidentally used that and poured a gulp of ATF fluid into the oil. Will this break the oil down or cause other problems?

LOL your a slow ***. If you haven't already ran your engine, pour it out. Run another quart or two of cheap oil and try to run it out. Hehehehe.

Define "gulp".. a few ounces or???

Ask yourself this...is your engine worth the cost of 5 new quarts of oil?? And, why are you mixing oils?? It seems you wanted to put a very good quality oil in your car, then you attempt to add generic oil because you ran out? That doesn't make sense to me.

I'd drain it, and let it drip for an hour or so to try and get every last drop out, then refill it with fresh motor oil (all the same brand too).

As soon as it started to come out I saw it was not oil. So maybe an ounce or two.

I thought I had 5 quarts but one of the bottles was empty. I ended up putting in 4 quarts of good stuff and 1/2 or the cheap stuff.

Yea what i meant was pour it out. Keep the drain plug removed and run two quarts of cheap oil and just let it drain out.

over the years I have done that a time or two with no ill effect on the engine. ride in peace 'til the next oil change.

it's detergent properties act as an engine flush already. some people add the trans fluid to remove buildup in the engine.

just drain a little a little fluid and refill with some motor oil and handle it the next oil change.

mansurxk and nitromax are absolutely correct. It will not hurt anything. Run until your next oil change. And be more careful next time.
You can mix engine oils, ( i.e. weight, brand, synthetic and standard oil ) but why would you. Especially expensive oil like Amsoil. Mixing wont hurt, but it certainly won't help.

Note: I would personally never mix oils.

Yeah, for an ounce or two, you're more than likely ok.
