Help maxima on 20"S

First off let me say this i know most of you hate 20"s on a max, i liked the rims I bought a lot and i had not seen them anywhere before. Now I just got my car painted two tone, and changed control arms, tie rods, the whole nine. With the rims finally installed the car drive pretty nice i must admit that. It's not as harsh as it was before. I don't like the SLIGHT 4x4 look. I like the comfortable ride and that's why i don't want to put my h&R springs back on. I currently have tokico illumnia with stock se(manual) springs in the front and gle/glea(auto) springs in the rear, to get rid of the famous maxima sag.
I also have the ionic dynamics body kit on it and love it. I like the racing look and show look mixed together, but i dare not speed anymore, a black guy speeding where i'm stationed is just asking for a lot of trouble. I already get a lot of cops pulling me over cause of my tints(3%) and seeing if i have any warrants. Most don't believe i'm in the air force.

So how can i lower my car and keep ride comfort. I'm thinking airbags, but from where and how much. Till i can save up enough for the airbag i'll just ride around. I'll post pics of the car's paint job soon, trust me you've never seen a 4th like this.

Wanna bet...

I have a feeling that a body kit a foot off of the ground is going to look terrible. Please prove me wrong.

airbags would be the only thing i know of that ride better than h&r. i like www.universalairsuspension.com. if you're really serious lmk, i was thinking of setting up a wholesale account and grabbing a few kits. anybody else interested lmk also. even if i don't i know of a group deal you could get in on. expect to spend around $1500 for quality parts. installation varies.

thread failure........ you've already long lost that with the 30 series tires.

ANY type of lowering you do from now will take more away from comfort

Da da dub dub dub, da da dub dub dub. (Reminded me of that song, can't remember the name). Anyways, 20"s are huge. 3% ****, how can you see at night? I would get smaller rims...18"s are nice. Maybe 19"s, but certainly not 20"s. Then again its your car.

Can you post a picture? I want to see.

I too have the same set up on my max and was thinking of doing the same thing of lowering the car. I am riding on 245/35/20 but i am real skeptical about the whole thing, you know buttoming out and all that. If i could just get rid of the sagging in the rear or just drop the front about an inch it be cool.

First off let me clarify
My body kit is not a foot off the ground, it's maybe an inch maximus two inches if that from where it was at factory height. And when it was there(at facotry height with body kit) it grazed when I was entering a packing lot in orlando.
I hate the sag in the rear and just like 20" max i just want to drop it an inch or just get air bags.

naw sorry my rotors are still factory, my rotors are cross drilled and slotted but not the 13" kind. I was thinking about buying it but it sold out on the classifieds already. I want to get the 30mm rotors and 300zx calipers.

See i knew it, maxima can look good on 20"s thank you jattdemax. Hey what type of drop do you get from s-techs? I know h&R are 1.5" in the front and 1.2" in the rear or something like that. I want just that but with softer springs i HATE harsh rides

On a passenger car i wouldnt go above 18's unless you wanna be ghetto. Theres an unwritten rule among maxima owners which says dont put a body kit on the car(except for stillen) and absolutely dont ever put on 20 inch dubs.

Ok some 20 inch wheels are fine on a max. I'm assuming, YES ASSUMING, that based on the OP's post he wants to go with some 20" chrome wheels that weigh 60 lbs. and look terrible.

theres a LOT of ppl running 19s (most of the better looking 4g) that are more show oriented. your 18 and under rule applys only to the performance crowd, most of who only have a handful of bolt-ons. as far as body kits go the only reason that the stillen is accepted as the only option, is because its the only urethane kit. plenty of ppl have used ionic (especially the new cf) and there are some r34s here and there.

i do think that 19s are the best size and the stillen kit is the best, but not because of an unspoken rule. because they look the best. if someone is not concerned about going fast wheel weight does not matter. the max can easily handle 19s with its huge wheel well, and 20s to a lesser extent. all chrome wheels don't look bad, just like all gunmetal 17s don't look good.

Thank you for backing me up. I have the ionic dyname aero kit(the new one) and it looks great. I the car does need to be lowered about 2 inches in the front and 1inch back but apart from that it's great. I do plan on redoing the paint cause the painter ****ed it up, too much flakes and body work is not all that great. So on november 1st we are redoing with the same scheme, just 50% less flakes and do the bottom half with that super black that i love so much

Lol when I first saw the thread asking for help about Maxima on 20", I immediately said to myself..."there you go, you just answered your own question. 20" is your problem" I personally would not go past 18". 20 is more for 6th gen. I would guess 2?5/35/20 is gonna ride like $*** and a fair chance to bend your rim out of true. Actually I really like jattdemax's ride except his rims.. not really my type.
Anyways... I'm interested in the pictures too.

Definitely not my taste, but if you like it, then You weren't kidding about the flakes......way too much.

Since it's going back, I'd ditch the sunroof deflector as it doesn't flow with 'Show' at all.
I'd consider painting your window trim back to black, it would look much better. Maybe even paint the mirror black, since it kind of part of the window area.

Yes I do agree the flakes are too much. We did not expect them to be that bright. The painting is getting redone on November 1st. I'm keeping the same scheme, but 50%less flakes on the top and bottom half no flakes just super elegant black. I do plan on buying the r34s. I still have my factory grill, I just switch them out week by week. Yes! that is speakers in my grille(it's wired to a switch in my ashtray I rarely ever use them)
I will give the window trim thing a thought. Damn i really was expecting some major bashing. Thanks for the critique. I will take pics of the interior, then you will see what I did two tone

I hope it's purely a show car, as those speakers will be toast in no time.

Photoshop the window trim black and see if it grows on you. I think you'll be pleased.

Don't forget pics of the rear too.

I don't know how to photo shop. Could someone please photoshop my ride about 2inches lower in the front and 1 inch in the rear. Also make the window trim all black and get rid of the sunroof wind deflector. Thanks it would be greatly appreciated. Any advise how to drop the car and keep the comfort. I have h&R springs but i hated the harsh ride of it. I don't know any springs that meet the gxe spring rate but drops it 2inches in the front.

i like it bro. that is a car that definately needs bags. as much as i don't like the style of wheel, they don't look bad on the car. i second the motion to paint the pillars and mirrors black. i also think it would look better if the break in the two tone didn't come to a point in the front, and instead followed the line of the head lights/grill. the flakes are way too much like you said, but have you considered leaving them out all together? theres nothing on earth cleaner than a smooth shaved super black. i think the ae's look better than the r34 so i would stick with those. keepin it gangsta with the tinted windshield. grill is sick (i was considering that one powder coated black). what tails are you runnin? anyways, your almost there as far as being a show quality max. good work. glad i rocked with you and you showed up.
