Anyone using Mobil1 ATF synthetic in their Automatic 4th gen?

Anyone using Mobil1 ATF in their automatic transmission 4th gen? How do you like it? Have you done a full flush with the new fluid or did multiple drain and refills? Looking for opinions on this fluid for the 4th gen automatic. Seems many who have used it are very happy and report lower temperature of the transmission.

I use it. It's better than anything else out there. (Other than Amsoil, but's pretty close)

how do you tell the difference between a regular dex3/matic-d and synthetic atf when you drive ?

how long has it been in the car and how did you flush it ?

What concerns me is that the Mobil 1 ATF does not meet the Matic-D specs.

What is the real difference between Matic-D and quality DexIII?...Is it a higher dose of friction modifiers in the Matic-D?

Perhaps the longevity of the transmission may be greater with the Matic-D as it's specifically formulated versus less long term reliability with the Dex III and Multi-Vehicle ATF formulations (syn and non-syn)?

I dont have any scientific proof, but when i got my car one year ago the shifts were just OK i did not feel as fast as to downshift as i had hoped it would - the fluid looked very fresh actually exactly what it is supposed to look like, but i went to the dealer and got a drain and refill with matic-d and the shifts have improved enough for me to notice

In all honesty, i still think DexronIII = Nissan matic-D, but since the dealer only charges 89.99+ tax for a drain and fill i will go back there again to get another drain and refill in some time...

I did a drain/fill with Mobil 1 Almost a year ago. (5K miles). I noticed smoother shifting during cold temperatures as well as faster warm-ups (things would smooth out much quicker). I'm planning to do a full flush this week since i've finished my Auto-RX treatment.

Nissan Matic "D" is just another way for nissan to take your monies. Mobil 1 Synthetic is considered to much better when it comes to temperature, breakdown, and cold-flow characteristics.

I flushed with cheap fluid and after 6 quarts I started filling it with Mobil 1 until it was full of the synthetic. Now the trans shifts smoother and I figure I'll go another 60000 before I change it again.

I did a full flush 7 months ago and I am impressed with the results. Shifts are precise and no slipping. The fluids section has an amazing detailed guide and will answer all your oil related questions in precise detail. Very good read, the stickies in the maintenance forum. Check it out =)

for those that have used M1 AT, did you add any friction modifier such as LubeGuard?

I didnt add anything, and i use it, love it, in the I30 it shifts much smoother, in the allante however it was like night and day, absolutely unreal difference. Good stuff

could you add m1 atf even if you have high mileage like 117k, because i got a flush like 7 months ago and it was smooth for like a couple months then it is back to begin hard?

I30-I auto-rx'd the tranny, then got it flushed with M1

The Allante i just did 2 drain and fills within 2 weeks.

Both were vastly better.

I just thought i'd update you guys. To read my previous comment look @ comment #6.
I just had a full flush done with 11 QTs of Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF. WOW, the shifts are silky smooth!!! It upshifts quicker and downshifts instantly when needed!!! Even that annoying 2->1 downshift while stopping is gone.

I'd definetly reccomend it!! But if you have a lot of miles, do an Auto-RX treatment first.

Glad to hear that all have had success with M1 ATF. I've decided to go the drain and refill route. So far I have done two drain and refills. On the first drain and refill, 5 qts. came out. On the second, 4 qts. came out. I plan on doing a couple more (3-4) to get all of the Matic-D dilluted.

I also want to add that sometime back I've also converted my PS to M1 ATF fluid. Thus far I have everything converted to synthetic fluid except for brake fluid which I have not got to yet. Probably run Valvoline Synpower Dot 4.

Mobil1 syn is good stuff at a good price. IMO, you are better off using a syn blend like Castrol Import MV ATF or Chevron MV ATF with frequent drain/fill regime.

What’s frequent in your opinion? I change mine every 15k. I only use Nissan “D “Matic.

15K is the right interval. The point I was driving at is one is better off replacing the ATF every 15-20K miles with a blend vs keeping syn ATF in the tranny for 30-50K miles. JATCO trannys have a propensity to chew up ATF, even syn ATF (vis # plumet after 15-20K miles).

It all adds to the same when you calculate frequency of OCIs vs cost of ATF.

Are you referring to viscosity #'s?

Correct, I have seen a UOA on Maxima tranny where the viscosity came down to 6.0 cSt in 15K miles when fresh ATF will be in the range of 7.8cSt. The best ATF would be a syn ATF in the 9.0 cSt with no viscosity improvers (Amsoil ATD is one such ATF).

What are the drivers for the viscosity change?

I will be doing 2 drain and refills every 15k after all the fluid is converted over. It probably does not matter what fluid is used if the frequency of drain and refills is not relatively long. Valvoline Maxlife ATF is another good choice.

Isn't the correct interval 30K Mi for tranny fluid ?

andrei-most recommend 15k intervals as the JATCO transmissions shear the fluid relatively quickly
