brake squeel

I have a 97 Maxima GLE. I change the brake pads about 1 yr ago (I do not have a receit). Every since I installed the pads (OEM), they squeel. I have tried everything to make them stop (sanding pads/rotors, squeel stop and a new product from BD that you put on the pads themselves) nothing works.

Do you thing Nissan gave me their cheap pads? Do you guys recommend another brand that will work?

1. Do they squeal all the time or just when cold, or damp? Also, what is your driving style?

2. What if anything was done to the rotors when you did the pads and what mileage was on them?

3. Where they turned or replaced or just left alone (sanding doesn't count)? A rotor that is only slightly out of spec can aggravate problems easily.

4. Nissan probably sold you the Key Value pads, which don't really have a great reputation, but they may not be your problem by themselves, or at all, see above.

I replaced the pad with 50K on it. I had the rotor turned at NAPA, they said it didn't need to be done. However, my dad always told me to do it no matter what.

The squeel always happends when the brakes are warm. Never happens when cold. Driving habbits, normal, never had a hard stop.

Should I try a different pad or stick with OEM (do you think it was the key value pads).

I just put some Raybestos Quiet Stop Ceramic Pads on. They don't squeal at all. They are just a little bit more expensive than standard pads. But, they are worth it. And they don't dust much either.

Where did you purchase the raybestos pads at?

Also did you take the shim off and throw them away or did you re-use them?

If you already tried the quiet goo and it didn't work, it sounds like a good bet it's the pads, especially since the rotors were fine. I always try to remind myself that just because it's oem doesn't mean it's always the best part for the car. Manufacturers will use the cheapest thing they can get that they feel will work adequately enough for the mass market.

I have the same problem but my mechanic told me that its not the brakes pads but the discs. They squeel during summer because the metal expands a little and that may cause them to make noise. But in the winter I don't have that problem at all. Its just how they are made they kinda shave themselvs down.

If he didn't have this problem before the new pads and he had the same rotors as before, I don't see how the different seasons and metal expansion could be his problem, especially since he's been living with this for a year. JMHO

I had the same problem where my brakes would squeel in the mornings, and gone after 2-3 stops. But since i started parking in the basement garage where its room temperature all year. My brakes stopped squaling. So i guess outside temperatures somwhat affects brake performances.

Brake squeel, thats one of the ways I can tell my friends altima is pulling up out front. Nissan Trademark. Its copyrighted so don't try and dupe it.

I replaced my pads, and the sqeeks stopped. Used OEM replacements.

I'm not trying to say that temps. don't affect brake performance, I just don't think it's this problem in this case. If it does it all year round and after the car's been driven a few miles, it's probably a different problem than what you experienced (which is typical by the way). The squeel you heard was the moisture that made it's way in overnight and affected how the pad and rotor interact until they are warmed up again.

I got the infamous brake squeal after I had the rotors turned and the pads replaced about 2 months ago. It only happens under light braking once the rotors have warmed up, so who knows...
