My hood doesn't line up (pictures)...and its pissing me off

my hood should be sitting flush with the front body panel of the drivers side but it does not. its not sitting that much lower, but it still doesnt look right from the front.

ive looked at about every place the hood could be sitting and i dont see anyhting that looks off....so my only real idea about how to fix it was this little cushion sitting on the side of the frame. but that seems to be the same in feel and size as the other side (the passenger side) which is sitting flush...

ive seen this on other maximas both in real life and in pictures on here

do i have to replace that cushion? is there another piece im missing?

jvckustumz Nov 7, 2007 07:09 AM

mine does the same, it's alittle down and forward, it happened after i took my hood off and put it back on so i bet its just alignment issues

maximabebe Nov 7, 2007 08:08 AM

Has your car ever been in a front end collision that you are aware of?

ROCKART Nov 7, 2007 08:13 AM

no. i bought this from the original owner - a 92 year old woman. CARFAX checked out. she never drove at night or in the rain. no accidents. only 42k on the car. 4k a year...

MDeezy Nov 7, 2007 08:36 AM

its off my 4mm:faint:

you could try loosening the bolts for the hood and try shifting it back as far as it will go then see if it lines up, if not try loosening the fender and shifting it forward to line up.

Have you tried adjusting the rubber bumpers that are in the radiator support. I think that helps to control the hood height. They should screw up and down a little bit. Yours could have gotten worn out over time.

ROCKART Nov 7, 2007 09:26 AM

you mean the ones that compress when you let the hood down?

they have an accordian type rubber flexing cover on them?

those can be adjusted?

ROCKART Nov 7, 2007 09:33 AM

are you talking about this thing? its height can be adjusted by screwing/unscrewing?

darklegend06 Nov 7, 2007 09:37 AM

umm that thing is the security switch for the hood.
nothing to do with the hood not closing right, if I'm not mistaken

ROCKART Nov 7, 2007 09:39 AM

ok. i see what you are talking about now.

Snypa Nov 7, 2007 09:44 AM

yeah...neither red or yellow arrows have anything to do with it,its some aligntment about the place do, and you said no front collison....hmmm,overall its not all that bad.

jvckustumz Nov 7, 2007 09:46 AM

what if you adjusted your latch up on the drivers side alittle bit????? i would try it and see what happens,

It's already been addressed but no, not that. The little round rubber bumpers on either side of the radiator support is what I am talking about. If that does not help then I would adjust the latch.

this (the blue one..) from the pic it even looks lower than the left side..

yeah the blue one is what I am talking about. It might not be your problem but that is what I am talking about. You could always smack your fender with a hammer to lower it a bit to make it match:D

wirelessdude04 Nov 7, 2007 01:29 PM

take a hammer and bang it into place lol. It doesnt look that bad

BLACKonBLACK98 Nov 7, 2007 01:34 PM

just raise the rubber piece up by turning it counter clockwise (blue)

maxima985spd Nov 7, 2007 03:49 PM

JSMax Nov 7, 2007 08:15 PM

loosen the 2 bolts on tour hood hinge on both sides and widdle your hood around till it's lined up again, you also should look at boh hinges and see if it is warped alittle compared to the pass. side one
