smoked tail lights

lol a seafoam pic i thought it looked good on a black max, better than on a white anyways.
i do agree red/clears look better but on a 95/6 it is pretty tough to get a hold of unless you buy that cheap crap off ebay

tinted tails look best on dark cars (ESPECIALLY black), that is just not a great example (no offense). i'm not sure what product was used, but it was obviosly sprayed on the outside of the lense with little prep. done right the lamp will remain glossy. i prefer spraying the reflectors on the inside of the light, but many people have had good results using tint and nightshades on the outside. it also looks better when both the upper and lower section are tinted.

Yeah that 2nd pic does look awesome, but i was planning on just smoking mine. I like the tint effect and know the light shines through, but its just not worth getting hassled by the police. So I was going to get a tamiya brand smoke color and just put a few coats on the top and maybe one on the bottom. sound good?

Nite shades is it. Some have used black paint which will give hyou the black out effect but does take alot from the light output. I have used nitshades on numerous cars with no ill effects. I have also done it with great results with pics to prove it.

Those are really dark. I say go wih one or the other, using both the tinted vinyl and the nightshades is killing the output.

nah you would be surprised you can clearly see them during the day and night ( i myself drove behind my car).
I had about 4 police cars behind me, trust me i was ready to get pulled over.
Nth happened, knock on wood.

WElll. I got a black car... And want some kind of contrast. Catch my drift. So i just wanted to lightly smoke the top half of the taillights and just basically want to know if what i plan on doing will work. I do not like the tinted effect too much ... and just want the slightly darkened effect. I don't plan on using nightshades, althought it does look awesome on your tan max I doubt its going to look good on a black on black stock max...
So please can you just tell me if I am going in the right direction with getting some model paint (tamiya brand, as i heard others use this b4) and just putting a couple coats on the outside? Most likely only 2 coats.

I used NightShades on my tails and just threw a couple of layers of clear on them and got the finish to match the gloss of the rest of the tails. I never liked the matte finish of NightShades and it was my first time doing any type of paint work on a car and I think it came out OK.
